469 Devel slide?
Hi, new to forum today....can anyone offer help on this pistol? I purchased it used around 1990 because I had never seen one and thought it was cool. It is a satin nickle 469 with a fluted slide that looks like a cut down model 39 slide, serial number TAC40XX. The box label says spec. order 4277 model 469, and has an additional decal on the lid that says S&W/Devel Custom 469....I will post pics if anyone can tell me how....

Welcome to the board. You should be able to attach pictures if you edit your post. Otherwise you can use picture hosts like
imageshack.us
photobucket.com
picr.de

how to post pics in short:
1) create a photo bucket account.
2) upload pictures from computer to photobucket account
3) copy and paste "IMG(Image)" code, looks like \ into body of text (without the spaces)
any further info can be found when searching on google "how to post pictures on a forum"

That's very cool. It looks exactly like a DEVEL 59 slide, fitted to the second generation frame. FYI: Wayne Novak has a picture of the last DEVEL 469 on his websight. You could probably ask him if your gun was actually modified by DEVEL, or converted by someone else. All S&W DEVELs that I've owned / seen have a dash after the serial number, followed by a DEVEL stamped production number. Now I'm going to have to see if my DEVEL slide will fit on my 669! Thanks for posting that pic.

I did speak to Wayne and based on the pics I sent him he said the slide is Devel, but the rest of the gun does not have the telltale Devel mods or serial number add on. The frame appears to be a stock 469 that is electroless nickel.

I've never heard of an arrangement between S&W and Devel, for S&W to sell Devel modified pistols. Can someone give me details on this: what was modified, what time period, and about how many guns?

They never had an arrangement to my knowledge. Devel converted customer provided S&W models 39 and 59. The prototype(s?) of course he bought on his own. Devel had 3 levels of modification, but we have more knowledgeable members here on board
