Can anyone help with the approximate build date of a no dash model 39 serial number 378XX? Also a model 639 serial A841XXX?

Can't help with build dates but the ship date on your 639 looks like 1983.

Best I can do on the 39 is SN's without an "A" prefix started in 1954 with 1001 and ended in 1970 with 115,000.

I would guess around 1963 for the Model 39 and 1983 for the Model 639.

There is always the $50 letter to S&W that gives exact dates, where it shipped to, and exactly how it left the factory.. i.e barrel length, finish, type of sights, and any options that may have been included. For the Model 39 at that age it might be worth it as a collectable. It can also may help a little with value when/ if you sell it.
