Any love for the Chiefs Special .40?
Ran across a minty 3rd gen Chiefs Special .40 yesterday.
Not a mark on it. 95-99%. Ask is 350 w/box & 2 mag.
Its not marked as a performance center pistol.
Don't really want the cost of shooting .40.
9mm is bad enough...But this thing looks new....
...It's bugging me.
Any experience w/this model?

They probably aren't the most popular of the CS series (9/40/45) but they are a nice compact reliable gun....and you will probably NEVER see a better price. Buy it, shoot it, if you don't like it you'll have no problem selling it for more than you paid. It's NOT a PC gun, but they are high quality S&W nonetheless.

I'm thinking of buying it.
A nice example for small money.
...and it fit the two 6906 holters I had with me.
...agree 100% about it not being a PC pistol.
It really stands out in a display case of pre-owned plastic guns.....

I'd go for it. I've got two CS40s and they are nice guns.

I just acquired a CS9 last week and let me tell ya am I glad I did!
CS9/40/45's are in a league all their own when it comes to Alloy/Steel Frame Compact auto's. If you can swing the cash DO NOT pass this up. You won't be sorry.

How about converting it to a CS-10/10 mm?
Love mine, 600 rounds through it so far with no issues.
Click here to read more about it: CS-40 in 10 m.m. - DONE - CS-40/CS-45 Extended Magazines
I have three barrels left.

Awesome gun, and an incredible price if it is mint. You should jump on it, or if not, post a link on here to that store!

IF I WAS YOU I WOULD GRAB IT ESPECIALLY AT THAT PRICE. IT IS AN EXCELLENT GUN AND WILL GIVE YOU MANY YEARS OF FINE SHOOTING. I HAVE THE CS9, CS40, CS45 AND WOULD NOT PART WITH ANY OF THEN. IMO THE BEST COMPACTS EVER MADE.

It is my primary conceal carry. Has never failed to shoot and have never had a FTE or FTF. Likes all brands of ammo. Paid $399 new a few years back on gun auction. Have never been sorry. Mine is Black with a silver slide. Sounds like a great price, I'd buy it.

I had a chance to get one in nice condition with two mags for good money, about two years back and passed on the deal, and I regret it to this day. Especially when I see a thread like this one, and when i see bad_man_one talking about his 10mm sub compact, man that would have been so sweet. I would get it if you can, don't want to be like me wondering what could have been.

The first thing you have to learn is that S&W's model numbering system is not a system and it is not logical. <G>
A compact 9mm with a single stack 8 round mag is a 3913. The next size smaller is a CS9. See the pattern. The next size smaller than a 4013 would be a CS40. 4516 and CS45.
See how simple that is. <G> When it starts to make sense it means you've spent to much time on this forum.

Don't feel bad. I just did a quick check of the SCSW and found at least 9 revolvers and 3 pistols that are called Chief Special something. S&W needs a more creative marketing department. I think they've just about beat Chief Special in to the ground. <G>
Should we talk about the Bodyguard, too? I'm not sure if it is a humpback revolver or a plastic semi-auto with a laser or some kind of hammerless revolver with a laser.
And I still remember when an M&P was a 6 shot revolver.
You're right - there no hope for ANY of us. <G>

Just had my CS40 trigger action improved. The long trigger pull had a catch or snag in the middle which was distracting. I'm told this is not unusual. Trigger movement totally improved, now.
Anyone else had this experience?

If I was ANYWHERE near Oregon, it would already be in my safe.
Great price, great pistol, Super Concealable!!
With ammo shortages popping up at odd times,
it is best to have several calibers to go to...
Remember a few years ago when you couldn't find 9mm or .45acp to save yer life,
but .40S&W was everywhere?? There ya go
