Default Absence of 2nd Gen Smith? A 459

I don't hear much on this forum about 2nd gen S&W's. Is it because they phased to the 3rd gens so quickly from 1st?
I just picked this up last week. This is my 1st 2nd Gen S&W. I am trying to get a collection of pre 1st through late 3rd generation examples. And have fun shooting a lot of lead as well

Like many things in life the hi cap 2nd Generation S&Ws are an acquired taste. The single stack models feel like metal frame M&P's to my hand, they fell like the perfect companion to the human hand. My old 459 felt like a metal Glock 17 with a too-short slide release.

Prime examples of "any" metal-framed Smith autos are becoming scarce.... They are great guns and although some other high-capcaity 9mm autos may fit (slightly) better, they are NOT Smith & Wessons.

Count yourself lucky to own the nickel 459.

(Side note.): I carried a nickel Series '70 when I worked armed security before I entered into law enforcement. The nickel plated guns seem to get the perps "attention" a little faster.....if you know what I mean.

You don`t see many 459`s with the adjustable sight & colored insert front sight & no hoop on the bottom of the grip, also has the ambidetrous safety, top is the 459.

Yes, the 1st thing I noticed when I got it was the lack of any color on the front site. I plan to borrow a smidgen of wife's white nail polish before I take her to the range.
I also want a set of S&W period correct grips to keep it all original.

I was going to say you don't see too many 459's with a square trigger guard too but you're right, they don't have hoops either. Didn't notice that before now.
mbliss57's hoop is concealed by the Pachy's but my TBU 459 doesn't have it either.

I carried this 459 for a few years on duty. The action has been slicked and it's a pretty good shooter. I still carry it some.

Oldwolf:

How is the trigger pull on your 559? Mine gets heavier...and heavier....then wham.....I plan on replacing the mainspring with a lower than 20 pound mainspring from Wolff (18 pounds) to see how she feels then, before...I send her off to the Performance Center for an action hone.

If you are talking about its single action pull, it is pretty good. The double action is fairly typical I guess, I don't shoot it much that way in fact.
