Question Hidden 1086

So I popped into one of my local gun shops today and asked the owner if he had any Gen 3 Smiths, and he reaches down like he is going for the display case but even I can see there isn't anything along the lines of what I'm asking about in there. He goes low under the display and pulls out a near perfect 1086 with a bright shiny slide. Says he took it on trade from an older fellow who shot it a few times then had trouble finding ammo and didn't like the cost when he did so after owning it all these years decided to trade it. When I asked the store owner what his plans were for it he debated with himself then said he would let it go for 8 bills. Looking for some feedback here.....I know it's worth what I'm willing to pay, but what's an average price on a 1086 in near perfect shape....2 mags, no PPW. Thanks in advance, TJ

That's about the top end of what I'd be willing to pay. No 1086 or 1046 sample here, although the others are represented. Mags are between $33-39 usually. Several 1086 owners on here will soon kick in with the real skinny...

Fair Warning! If you don't have any 3rd gen, this will be your first of many to come as they seem to breed prolifically. (i.e. 5906, 6906, 4506 on your horizon...)

Kinda pricey. Between 525-575 would be a good price.

A store here had a 1006 last year at $795 & it went pretty quickly.

Market for a DAO 10mm might be a bit more limited tho. If it's what ya want...

Great feedback guys...

DesertFox.....I'm already there, bought a 4013TSW last year and love it...I have a 4513TSW due in to my FFL tomorrow....just aching to pick it up. I want the 3913 next but holding out for a TSW to keep the trend......Just stumbled onto the 1086 in such nice condition, I wanted some feedback from enthusiasts. Thanks

TJ, The bright shiny slide is NOT factory. Most likely someone polished it with Mothers Mag Wheel Polish, Flitz or Simichrome polishing agent, or something of that ilk. There was a 1086 at one of my LGS a few months ago that had been there for about four months. Original finish gun, papers, box and two mags. Asking price originally was $750. It finally moved OTD for less that $600 ($540 + tax + BGC = $599.95), and she shoots great. I ended up giving it to one of my brothers for his birthday. He likes it more than I did.

I payed $750 for my latest S&W1086 with 3 magazines then $40 for a "unreasonable" transfere fee. (PIA)

The "new" one has the stainless steel trigger and hammer my other has the black MIM trigger and hammer.

If you can get out the door for less than $750 you'd be GTG...IMHO

IMHO: The LGS doesn't really want to sell it.

I just missed a 1006 in vg/ex for $450 at a LGS few months ago. Damn near cried on the spot when he told me what it sold for.

Default 1086 - What does the correct period box look like

I know this is a little off topic, but I just got a 1086 without an original box, and I'd like to get a box for it that is as true to original as possible - just for authenticity sake. If anybody has a description, or better, a picture, I'd appreciate it.
