WOW
Wow that is a beauty. How is that price high? I would expect to pay $400 for a used one with a box. I mean a really used one!! That is a LNIB condition. That has to be worth $550 plus in my book. At least that what I would pay to own a NIB fresh from the year old S&W semi automatic. Now you need to decide if your going to shoot that collectable example of a 3rd gen S&W or buy a shooter and keep that as a safe queen.
I just checked the SCSW and they values that LNIB at $450. That was 6 years ago!!

I don't consider what you paid too much for one in that condition. It's essentially brand new off the dealer lot, with only a single test drive on it.
Nice find!

I agree, $370 doesn't seem high at all. Very nice find, congrats.

Hard to believe that 1993 is now "a long time ago."
I like the 915 two.

That is such a great buy. I love the 915 and it's a really accurate pistol.
The only thing I changed on our 915 and 411 are the grips. I've got the curved S&W plastic grips and it fit my hand just perfect. Even my wife likes it and cannot complain.
The price you paid for it is just fine.

I've said before & I'll say it again.
The 915 is one of S&W best "sleepers".
Outstanding gun! All business!
Congrats!

Wow! Thanks everyone!Sorry the pics aren't too great kinda soft and hazy,I'm no photographer anyway After I started thinking about the price after looking at my 30th edition of gun trader, the price didn't seem too bad and that's an old book but I'm glad you all agree.I bought a NIB M410 in '96 as my first handgun, sold it a few years ago after being bitten by the 1911 bug and tried to fill the void with a M910 that was laser etched but it just wasn't the same.I never really gave the 915 or 411 a 2nd thought until I started really seeing them online as they were just before my time and thought man those look to be more refined than the "Clinton" models and after seeing some that you guys post pics of,I had to have one.Went with the 9mm because I never could shoot well with a .40 and it's cheaper.Let's see...what were those prices mentioned? Somewhere in the $450-$500 range? 915 for sale! JUUUUST KIDDING! So far as safe queens I can't do it.If I sold it one day (never) having not fired it,someone else would get the joy of experiencing what I didn't I'll post a range report soon. Thanks to you guys on here I have learned alot more about the 3rd gens so I must give credit where credit is due!

Nice buy, good price, almost what I payed for my 5903 in nowhere near as good a condition as your 915 is.

I may have to make a 30 mile trip tomorrow. GS south of me has a 915 in stock and I passed it by because I thought it was a current production unit. And I was paying more attention to a 4506 they had.

Greetings folks,
Assistance please. I have 2 queries about my 915.
1) I was given a 915 by son/law and told that it would always fire one round and stove-pipe the casing.
2) I would like to put a light on the gun, but there's no rail system on the gun.
Any ideas for either situation ?

My wife traded her XDM 3.8 for a 6906 which is what she carries.
But when we go to the range she shoots my 915.
I agree its a sleeper.

Sell a gun? do folks do that? Trade maybe (and not with a LGS ) Great score 1911, at that price if I'd have seen it first you would have never had a chance.

Pallen733, did you find out yet what causes the stovepipe. If not i suggest trying a different brand of ammo just in case you have a bad box or lot, or loading one less round in the magazine in case the spring is so strong it's pushing up against the round being extracted, and maybe lubing the gun as it says in a S&W manual. Not saying you didn't try any of these just suggestions. As for the light, go to google and type in: picatinny rail pistol.
This should bring up a lot of options, again not saying you didn't these are just suggestions.

Pallen,
I would send the gun back to S&W. They are very good in diagnosing, repairing and generally bringing your pistol back up to 100% reliability. I've used them many times for repair, modificaton and refinishing.
A good POC at S&W is Mr. Jim Rae ( [email protected]) or Jeff Whitehouse ( [email protected]).
They will get your 915 purring again with 100% reliability. If you send it in, be sure to enclose your mags. If they're the culprit, S&W will replace them FREE of charge.
As for the light rail, I used a Novak M1913 Pictatinny rail (sold in Aluminium, Stainless or Blue) for my 4566. The frame contours are the same (or similar) to a 1911. The 915 has a slightly different dust cover profile than the rest of the line. The rail would most likely need to be fit, but you would have a rock-solid (using 8-40 screws and knifemaker's epoxy...done by your gunsmith) mount for a light.
The 915 is one of the best autos that Smith has done. It was never meant to replace the 5906 falgship, but it IMO is perhaps a better buy. They have milled innards and are exceedingly well made.
Hope this helps!

Have many Smith revolvers, half a dozen Ruger revolvers. Only centerfire auto I own is a 915. A fairly recent CAI import, Israel I believe, and beat to heck. But man does it shoot!

Wow. I would say that you paid a very fair price for that mint specimen! It sure looks new to me, as well.
Your photographs are very nice, too. I can't photograph firearms to save my life.
Shoot it in good health!
