My RSR 6592 that I picked up a couple years ago. This is the best shooting gun I have ever had. Never misfires and shoots like a dream.
From the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson I found this information. The Catalog does not mention the 6453 but I have seen at least one on this website.
Models SN Start SN End Manufactured
6450 1 177 177 Ajustable rear site, RR front
6451 178 407 230 Fixed rear site, RR front
6452 408 619 212 3 dot fixed sights
6453 ? ? ?
4690 1001 1293 293 3 dot fixed sights
4691 1294 1469 153 red ramp front site
6590 2001 2741 741 3 dot sites removable barrel bushing
6591 2742 3110 369 RR fixed sights removable barrel bushing
6592 3111 3359 249 3 dot sites fixed barrel bushing
6690 4001 4853 853 RR fixed sights
6691 4854 4946 93 white dot fixed sights

I just had a 4690/9mm given to me. This is my first handgun and have been around long guns my entire life. I have shot hand guns, but never been an owner.
The gun feels great to me and is in very nice condition. I broke it down to clean today and will be looking to buy some ammo soon to take out to the range and get used to.
I only have the one clip and holds 12 rounds. What options do I have for clips and where do I get them? Also what holsters will work and where should I get them? Is this considered a M&P? (Military & Police ? ? ?) I do not see much on the internet about these guns, and think this is the place to find the info I need.
BTW, what are your thoughts of this model, good and bad points? I see there were 293 made, seems low but fewer were made of other models. I am not sure of the value of this gun compared to others in the list above. I am not looking to sell it, but curious of what I have.
Thanks in advance for your help and inputs,
Mike

My 1999 RSR 945. I have the original laminated grips, but here it has some custom Hogue checkered kingwood.

RSR is a national distributor of sports equipment. They currently go by RSR Group. The RSR "transitional" guns were made with some leftover 2nd generation parts and new 3rd generation parts. My 6450 above was a 645 slide and barrel on a 4506 frame. Since these were not true 2nd or 3rd generation guns they added a digit to what would have been their 2nd generation model number. The post above with the model number decoding is most helpful in figuring out the various model numbers.

How can I find out what parts my 4690 are made of?
I called RSR and they don't want to talk to a non-dealer. Bummer ! I went to a local gun dealer and he said right away that it looked to hold a clip from a 6906 and verified with his own personal clip. He then led to saying they are VERY hard to come by. He is looking into it right now.
I personally did not like this guy. He was very "well this and well that" and when I asked for a value, he went to his book and said he could not find anything. I believe that, as I already had someone look it up and they did not find it either. He then told me he got his SS 6906 for $250 and my 4690 was at most $350. I did explain that there were only 293 made, and he said that did not mean much.
Looking at the RSR web site for clips, the mag for a S&W 6906 looks exactly like my magizine. I pulled the part number (MGSW19351) and began searching for them and only found 2 places that had them in stock. All the rest were sold out and could not be backordered. I am thinking this is the right magizine, but would love to know for sure before ordering.
Is there any info that can be shared with me to help ensure I am looking at the correct part?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

The 4690 is just the predecessor or "prototype" version of the 6906 if I recall correctly. If you do a search on RSR guns you'll find a thread that was made not too long ago on them.
The gun should use any and all parts that the 6906 does.

RSR transitionals are basically third gen frames with second gen slides, mags for either a 469/ 6904 or 669/ 6906 will work....

If the 6906 magazine will work, Midway has them.
Smith & Wesson Mag S&W 469 669 6904 6906 6924 6926 6944 6946 9mm Luger
They should be readily available. Once you are sure that's what you need you can probably find them on this Forum. I have in the past. The S&W part number for the 12 Round magazine is 23274.

Welcome!
There's just not a lot of info on these transitional 2nd-to-3rd gens out there. The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson doesn't list a 6453. It shows the 6450 as "quite rare", 6451 as "rare", and a 6452 also as "rare". The 4th digit being a 3 suggests that it has an alloy frame as opposed to stainless.
It would be nice if you could post some closeup pics. These RSR transitionals are at the very least scarce, and at best quite rare. Since the SCSW doesn't list it suggests it may be rare, or quite rare. They've become very collectible and it helps to have the original box, magazines, cleaning brush and papers. Values are all over the map (especially lately) but if it's condition is excellent, they are worth significantly more to the right collector.

S&W RSR 0497 MOD 6452 .45 Caliber Auto
Good afternoon. Just came across your post and would like to see if anyone has any info on my 45. I haven't seen any other one on the market, and have no idea the value either. The only ones I was able to find in the same model is the 9mm. But not the .45.
Anyways thanks for your help and hopefully you like my picture.

RSR6690 uses a 3rd gen frame. (6906) so those mags work fine.
(I have an RSR6690 and have purchased 6906 12-rd mags before the ban)

Accurate RSR6690
Roy Jinks confirmed the model RSR6690 had a production quantity of 660. Mine was made and shipped in May 1991. Other post list production of 853. This was confirmed untrue by him. They are rarer than thought.

If any of the above posters are willing to share the specs of their RSR guns including any of the information listed below via PM to me I would greatly appreciate it. The data is not going to be listed with any personal information publicly but simply trying to get a personal list together to confirm quantities and serial number ranges.
Info wanted: Full serial number, model number, any shipping info like where to and when, and product codes. Thanks guys.
Here's a link to another RSR thread. Figured I would try and link threads as these guns are hard to search for in the forum, at least for me it is.
Model 6454, 1 of 10 (UPDATE 8/2/2015) Now 2 of 10

Is this the same size as the 3913/14, 908/ Ladysmith, etc. except wider grip of double-stack? Or is it a larger frame duty size??
Also, what does RSR stand for?
Thanks - Rick

Rick
The 6690 is a 3rd gen 6906 frame with a 2nd gen 669 slide. The RSR prefix is in reference to the RSR Group, who S&W contracted with for these guns for distribution/sale.
I have the 4691, 6452, 6453, 6590 & 6690
