Default 457S-my new workhorse

It took some doing (4hrs round-trip) but I got the 457 I wanted!

$400 w/3 mags, no box. (I had 2 7rd mags already from the 645 deal so I figured I needed to buy a gun that took em LOL)

It wasn't in as good of condition as I thought, but it's going to be my carry gun so it doesn't really matter who put the wear on.

Had some rust spots on the slide, but those buffed right out (along with some more of the printed S&W lettering...it's really faint now).

Can't wait to get to the range tomorrow! More to follow

I've been carrying my 457-s for a few years now. I have many guns for many reasons, but my 457 is my go-to gun. The only modification I made was to install XS 24/7 night sights. My carry ammo is Hornady Critical Defense. Very good shooter, with never a hiccup no matter what ammo I feed it.

Chefjon, congratulation on your acquisition. There are many, many threads here on The Forum about the 457, and it is universally praised. I have two, and one of them is my EDC. You will find that it will cycle any ammo you feed it. I've never, not even once, had a FTF or FTE in either of mine.

People are always looking for a lightweight, compact .45 ACP, and they are completely oblivious to the 457. I continue to hope that it stays under the radar of the general gun buyer, so the prices remain reasonable.

It was really kind of funny the amount of time I spent, not to mention the number of guns I went through, trying to find a suitable (for me) compact .45. The funny part is that I have had many S&W semi-autos but did not know about the "value" guns. I bought a 457 on Gunbroker basically on a whim because it was so cheap. At $305 I thought even if I don't care for it I would still be able to send it along and not lose too much money. Now that I have had it for awhile it is my EDC and I wouldn't sell it for $500. It is, as they say, everything I want and nothing I don't. Go figure.

Finally got her to the range yesterday and I'm definitely in love!

I always start every new (to me) gun off with a mag dump. Fun, but not so accurate . That 1st DA pull threw me. Once I settled down and started getting to know her, it just got better and better!

I went through a few mags each of 1 handed shooting and even enjoyed shooting her off-handed.

Damn, why'd I have to fall for a $18/box gun instead of a $10/box gun LOL? I want to shoot it every day!

Well, now the search is on for carry gear. What do y'all use?
