Default Help with 639 serial number/ product code

I have a model 639, NIB, fixed sight with round trigger guard, and according to SCSW it should have a three letter prefix, but mine has serial A841xxx, and a product code of 6390094903. Can anyone help with this one? I have never seen a product code like this one and cannot find it listed anywhere.

Can't help you with a product code, but I own a Model 639, Serial No. A838XXX and mine was actually made in 1983. Yeah, I know the offical dates for manufacture were 1984 to 1988, but don't believe everything you read. Mine has the round trigger guard, but adjustable rear sight.

I bought it from a dealer in 86, and I remember he said it was old stock, and had it on sale because it had been sitting for quite some time. I actually paid just over three hundred for it out the door, and the only reason I wanted it was the round trigger guard, hadn't seen one til then and it was basically a stainless twin to my 39. Never fired it though, as I bought a LE trade in square guard fixed sight that I completely went through, polished, and carried off duty for almost ten years.....still a great shooter.....love the 39's

You carried that thing off duty! It's a brick! I shot it once, and went back to my 39-2. Too heavy for me, and shot off to the left no matter what I did. Hope yours is more accurate. You can drive nails with my 39-2.

Yeah I carried it probably half the year, it was my cold weather carry, horizintal shoulder rig, and it shoots better than the third gen I used to carry on duty, i'm a pretty big guy so the weight of it never bothered me at all, just the length at times. I carried a 649 during warm weather, picked it up also as a LE trade in also, I think it was from the Charlotte PD. Eventually I went to a G19, but just recently bought a M&P9c, which I carry now. Still love shooting the 639, it's a great shooter. I did add a third gen ambi safety and 669 bobbed hammer when I went through it, made it a joy to carry.
