Default Melonite 4566

I've been wanting a Model 4566, and am looking at one that the seller claims has a factory melonite finish. I can't find any reference to this in the SCSW. Anyone here familiar with it? I think it looks nice in the pictures, but is it generally considered desirable? I'm not real familiar with melonite. The gun doesn't come with a box, so is there any way to confirm it is factory finish (other than a letter?) Thanks!
Brad

See these for info. 4566 is a great gun, don't know about the melonite aspect. Good luck with the acquisition.

Another melonite 4566 thread....

Yes those threads are helpful. First things first, you need to make sure the pistol in question falls within the proper serial number range.

Be advised that there were also some LE sales samples made up, of "black" 4566's, during the late 90's. These do not have the RJF serial prefix. Those may not be melonited either. It could be that cheaper black finish that S&W used at that time period.

Good luck with your aquisition! They are fine pistols. Scarce too! Regards 18DAI
