Question What weight bullet in a Md 439?

Hi,

I'm seriously thinking of shooting my beater Md 439 I bought on the forum a few years back. Even with a bent mag release button, it and the gun works fine. I've shot about 100 rounds of 115 grn WW when I got it but I then put it away to shoot newer 9mms. I have a lot of 147grn 9mm, both sub-sonic and std loads that I have for my other guns. But I am wondering about the sanity of shooting any of these in this gun on a 500 or more round count basis. I don't remember if 147 grn ammo was used by any of the few police departments using S&W Autos back in the day. And if it was, whether it was sub-sonic or std loads. I'm sure the steel parts can handle it, but the alloy frame?

Anyway, comments and opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

We used 147gr subsonic, not an issue with it...

I would make sure and replace the recoil spring though, if you didn't already...the hammer spring also has an impact on how hard the slide cycles, might want to pick up a new one of those too...

Thumbs up

Grif684,

Thank you for responding. I did replace the recoil spring first thing. Forgot about the hammer spring. I'll order one when I get the ammo. I checked my supply after I wrote the note above but I'm apparently out of sub-sonic. SG Ammo has some nice Winchester 147grn sub-sonic so I'm going to pick a new supply.

I really like the 147grn stuff in my other 9mm pistols so this "first hand" info from you is like hearing it from the mount.

Take care and be safe.

Chris
