Default Cleaning and Protecting Metal and Wood

I'm new to the high dollar / collectible side of hand guns, and I'd like to know what the more experienced guys 'n' gals can tell me about cleaning and protecting the exterior of various surfaces, primarily stainless, both polished and flat finish, blued barrels and frames, and also wood grips.

Do wood grips need to be sealed to prevent staining from the solvents, lubes, etc. used on the metal parts of the gun?

Do you treat wood grips like furniture, or leave them alone? Should they be removed when cleaning, or will that wear out the screws and mounting holes?

And any other tips / tricks / always-do / never-do items that you can think of.

Thanks in advance for any help.
