New Shield, .40 vs. 9mm , Recoil

Just wondering from some of you lucky ones out there that have scored a 40 s&w how the recoil is. I am stuck between the two calibers, 9mm and 40 s&w. I shoot the 40 cal in glock and know it has a little bit more energy than the 9. Being it is a little smaller I just want to see if anyone out there thinks the 40 is a little hot. Hope this makes sense, Sleddman

Wow, no one has a 40 out there in the shield they have shot?

There are several posts on this subject already if you search.

I have a .40 Shield and to me it is less snappy than the G27's I have owned. Smith got it right wither the Shield. Masterful design of a pistol tuned with the right balance ,weight distribution , slide, and spring combination. I have the shield as a pocket backup my EDC is a G29 so the recoil of the shield is very manageable for me. Much more manageable than a .38+P or .357 mag snubby. I have a 340 SC .

As it turns out I just returned from the range and there was a guy with the 9mm Shield. I have the 40 shield. I let him fire my 40 and I was able to fire his 9mm. IMHO there is a noticable difference. He agreed as well. After shooting, we went out in the parking lot and dis-assembled the weapons. His 9mm barrel fit in my 40, but not vice-versa ... the 40 barrel would not fit properly in the 9mm. I wish I could have fired it with the 9mm barrel but am now very happy I bought the 40.

Thanks Texas48. I have shot several .40 guns and don't think they are bad at all to shoot. I guess I was just looking for a little nudge in the right direction. Thanks.

I have been trying to make the decision of 9 or 40 in the shield also, kind of leaning towards the 9mm and getting out of the 40s altogether.
I have a Kahr PM40 & a M&P 40c.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll probably be going to the 9 as I already have a 469, the dies and a couple of buckets of 9mm.;) Now...To find who has the best price???

It is almost easier to find an Edsel than a Shield 9mm:) right now.

I just purchased my 9mm Shield off of GunBroker. When I first started looking on GunBroker they were all over the place. When I finally decided to buy mine there was only 1 on GunBroker. I couldn't wait and it cost me, but I am happy to get it. I have had 2 40 cal, hated them both, no they were not shields. The felt recoil on a 40 cal is just plain uncomfortable to shoot. Much rather shoot a 45 or 357 than a 40.
Probably just me though.

I just bought a new 40 Shield and really like it, it shoots like a dream. I shot the Kahr 40 and the Beretta Nano prior to buying my Shield and I find the Shield to be a pleasure to shoot, recoil was comparable to the Kahr.

A local forum in the NC area lists at least four Shields for sale. They have been listed for several days without any takers, interesting.

You should always buy the 40. You can buy a 9mm barrel and drop it in. Work the other way around. That's why I chose the 40

There is a noticeable difference. The 9mm is a pleasure to shoot. The .40 isn't all that bad, but the 9 is definately more comfortable and controlable in recoil.
