Default 4586 for $300 should I ?

On our local online classifieds my local gun shop whom I have bought my last 3 Smiths from now has 4586's for $299.95. All police trade ins. Some have straight grips and some curved. I also noticed some have rounded hammers and some have flat ones. Whats up with the hammers? Heading down there in the morning to put one on layaway even though the only reason I was on the laptop tonight was to look for a bankruptcy attorney! I have a 4566 that I love but really dont need another 45 and really dont have the cash but it's just $300 bucks!

You really came *here* for "Should I buy?"?

Especially @ $300, expect 4 pages (at least) of "Hell yes!" to follow.

We're all here to enable each other, brother.

If you don't buy it please post the site that has them so that others CAN partake!

Yes. I bought a police turn-in 4586 last year for $400. I would buy every $300 45XX on the planet if funds allowed. Remember: If these were made today, to the same standards, they would cost more than $1k.

Maybe some are just "pre-cocked" and some have been "fired".

That picture in the original post looks exactly like the one in a current auction on GB that I'm watching. The name of the seller is Paducah Shooters, Paducah being the same city as the OP so I'm guessing it's the same place. The buy now price is $325, and if I had the scratch I'd be on it like (insert your own metaphor here).

So those of you who are interested just search 4586 on that site; you'll run across them.

Certaintly the 4586 should be worth 300 bucks any day of the week, but (and I'm not flaming the OP), not having the cash but saying that its "just $300" will not likely help deflect impending bankruptcy.

We kid about it a lot on this site but spending money that you don't have on a gun is not wise - unless you IMEDIATELY "flip" it for more money, and let's face it - once you get it, it's awfully hard to turn it loose.

Good luck and guidance in your decision.

A fellow WA stater... it sucks that $325 becomes $405 after shipping, WA tax, and FFL transfer.

Why don't $299 deals show up in this state.

Yes guys, it is at Paducah Shooters supply. I didnt make it over there today but did sell an old 410 shotgun and a 22 rifle that I forgot I had. Gonna take that money and see what happpens. I did CCW my 4566 today as the wife took over my 3913 (wont give it back)and I left my keltech pocket gun in my camper.

Could be more - ad states buyer pays "actual shipping cost". That's something you want to verify before you buy. You could get gouged for $50. Seen it happen.

The reality is that even $405 isn't that bad a deal here, because it would never be $299 or $325 in the first place. It'd be $375 minimum, and after tax you're right back at $410. Stuff just seems to be priced higher here on the west coast than in the south. Gas here is $4.30. That's more than a buck a gallon higher than in Paducah.

It's not spending $300, it's investing $300. Buy 2 sell one and your investment price will probably already drop to $200. You don't have to pay shipping or FFL, so what's the problem. I'd sell my tailgait or something, just kidding, I love my truck. But, it's a thought.

That's kinda funny since I just bought, after a LONG search, a 4586TSW from Paducah shooters for 475. So "Hell yes" buy one!!!

If I had $300 to spare and lived near the shop, I would buy one.

But, I don't, and I don't, so I won't...

If you like DAO pistols and the 45 ACP round you could not do much better than a 4586 at that price. I have one and the trigger is smooth as silk and the slide feels like it is running on ball bearings. Go for it.

I have read this thread five or six times, looked at the auction ten times, got a shipping cost and I am still debating. I have a

4546 that I love and I have to admit, all of the 4586's, 4566's and 1086's I have had over the years are no longer with me. I know it is a very good deal, but for some reason, I can't hold on to mid-size 3rd gens. <sigh> prolly buy one anyway.

Thanks for the info on the upcoming bankruptcy. I now know that if I am selling to you it is cash only
But aside from you being broke... how can you pass up a deal like that

Just in the process of trading a Rock Island 1911-A for a 4586TSW. Police trade in's, w 2 mags & box. They're selling them for 375 which to me is reasonable, but the even trade for me was a better deal. I'm just not a 1911 guy but have recently learned to love the 3rd Gens and this wil be my third (908, 6906). For 299 I'd take all I could afford .
