Default E-Series 1911 recoil spring

Just curious -- have any of you replaced the recoil spring on your E-Series Gov't model? If so, what weight are you using?

Mine has been very reliable, but ejection has been quite "brisk" to say the least. My sense from asking around is that the factory spring is 16#, and I'm wondering whether anyone's swapped that for something heavier and how it's worked for you.

I might just buy a 17# and an 18.5# spring and do a little testing, myself, but thought I might check here first.

Thanks in advance!

my duty carry 5" Springer uses a 18.5 and sometimes my grasp of the slide seems to slip.

the gun recoil does feel snappier with factory 230 ball compared to another gun shooting the same ammo with a 16# spring, however it will keep you from battering with extended use of duty type or hotter ammo.

I would suggest also buying a 16# as your original might have fatigued.

Thanks for your thoughts -- I might try a slightly heavier recoil spring. My empty cases are getting flung quite a distance (even with basic 230gr hardball), which made me worry a bit about the frame getting battered.

The original spring in my E was so stiff I could barelyrack the slide. Reaced with a Wolff 16# and a 19#mainspring. Much better for me. No light strikes, BTW.
