Default 1076 Stamping under Model #

I have a 1076 that someone is offering me in a trade, he claims it is an FBI gun and the numbers "141" stamped on the frame is for the FBI again badge number. Does anyone have any idea if this is true ?

The only way to know for sure is with the S&W letter, which isn't to say it is not an FBI gun. The numbers could have been an "ID" for any number of Law Enforcement agencies as many adopted these for service weapons.

This gun being offered to me does not have the warning you mention, but I am not certain that does nto mean it is not an FBI model. I just have never seen any with numbers stamped under the model # and was hoping others might have seen it.

I have never seen an FBI issued gun with this type of number stamped under the model number.

I have 1076 #TFE 21XX with "175" stamped under the model number. Have not saved up enough money for the factory letter. This gun does have night sights and the two punch marks under the de-cocking lever. Otherwise, it lacks the characteristic marking of the FBI gun and does have the magazine safety. . It is highly unlikely that this is an FBI gun. I apologize for no pictures.

The FBI did not stamp any numbers under the serial number or anywhere else for that matter.

The 1076 was also issued by a number of PD's... numbers like that on PD guns can be what's known as "rack numbers".

Raleigh,NC PD & Kentucky State Police are ones that I've seen references to that issued 1076's.

I'd say if he says it's an FBI gun and wants FBI gun moneys then it's up to him to contact S&W and get the letter stateing such.
