Default M22a Magazine Well Pin

Noticed a small rod or pin protruding about 1/4" from the bottom of the magazine well on my M22a while cleaning it today. It pushes right back in when the magazine is inserted but I've never noticed it sticking out of the gun like this before. Is something ready to go bad? I also can't remember if I should be able to cock this gun and get a trigger click when there are no bullets, it's not doing it if it should. It was fine at the range this morning.

OK, it is dry firing correctly; I was trying to do it without the magazine in place to watch the pin. Still don't remember this pin ever sticking out of the magazine well before.

I don't think you should be dry firing the .22a. I understand you can break the firing pin doing that.

I keep a couple of spent cartridges just for this purpose. I've also heard dry firing can hurt a 22.
