Default Recommendations for a dot on a 52?

I traded into a 52-1 a couple of years back and really want to get some use out of it. It came to me with most of the rear sight missing and a simply awful right-grip scope mount and silver Tasco Pro-Point. Yep, it looks as bad as you can imagine and I am more than a little embarrassed to take it to the range. On the plus side I got 5 mags and the original grips with it and have picked up one more mag since then. My initial thoughts were of course to restore the rear sight but I dawdled about doing anything about it and have now changed my mind. To be honest my eyes are not what they used to be and are not getting any better. Nothing terrible, just old age creeping up on me. Anyway, I see the newer generations of really small dot sights and think for me to really enjoy shooting the 52 that is the way to go. What kind of rigs are you guys (gals?) running and/or what would you recommend? Money is always an object but I don’t mind paying for real value if there is a clear difference. Pictures would help.

I too have put a dot on mine for pretty much the same reasons . Check out BME scope mounts . Yes they're a tad pricey , but very well made . Many different types to chose from & several require no drilling or tapping . Since you don't have a rear sight & don't care you could always get the slide D & T'd , and aluminum Weaver mount . I got the BME mount that replaces rear sight . I use a 1" 4moa Ultradot , also have a barrel weight . I'd also recommend a 7lb recoil spring from Wolff with a slide mounted dot . Mine will still function with 3.1 W231 , 2.7 BE std mid range loads . Search my past posts & you'll find pics of gun , loads , test targets etc .

Thanks for the reply. Drilling and tapping the slide is certainly do-able but I was hoping to avoid that and go with one of the really small dots and mounts that replace the rear sight. Anybody else got a set up they are particularly happy with?
