Default In Praise of the S&W 908

I had a couple of these pistols (pictured) a few years ago, and like an idiot sold them both. Just recently purchased another 908 S, the stainless variety, and couldn't be happier. Went and found the same roll of 3M tred tape (like skateboard tape) and added a little piece under the trigger guard, just like before.

These pistols are certainly a solid value and appear that they would last forever. I find the same kind of quiet American value here that you see in Mossberg shotguns: nothing flashy or uber-tactical, just a dependable tool you can count on.

I know the 908 will forever be bringing up the rear behind more finished models that aren't from the "value line," and I know time of the all-metal Smith & Wesson pistol seems to have passed, but there are surely a lot of these fine products floating around. I'm not going to let this one go.

They are very nice guns. I have a 411 and love it. I'll be looking for a nine pretty soon.

All the 3rd gen pistols made believers of all of us long ago. I have bought and sold lots of them in the past but you will never catch me without any.

I have a 908, a 910 and two 457's. Nary a problem with any of them. No FTF or FTE no matter what ammo. The 908 was my EDC until I went to the 457. People can dismiss them as value line all they want - just means more (and less costly) for those of us who know better.

I foolishly sold my 908 that I loved to buy a 3913 that I felt was too wide due to the safeties. I swapped it for a Glock 17. I traded two 39-2's for a 3953... great gun. The 3953 is the ultimate carry gun.
