Default Magazine disconnect on 3rd Gen

So, I shoot IPSC with a 1006 and one of the PITA with this is the magazine disconnect. Depending on the RO I either can show clear, slide forward and use the decock to holster OR show clear, slide forward, insert empty mag and pull the trigger to drop the hammer.

I've thought about removing the mag disconnect but A. Don't know how off hand and B. Don't know if doing so would hurt the value of the weapon.

It is a shooter, not a safe queen but I don't see any reason to intentionally damage the value.

Any suggestions? (yeah, I know opinions are sooooo hard to get on this board )

Frank Derbin posted here how to clean it.
[How To] remove mag disconnect for cleaning or maintenance

When you've removed it for cleaning you can put it back any time you want.

Removing the parts will not hurt the value of your gun as long as you keep them so that they can be re-installed.

Personally, I would get a gun that is more in tune with USPSA/IPSC and use your 1006 for casual shooting.

Seems like a 10mm is far more power than needed to knock down poppers.

I have been using an M&P Full Size .40 in USPSA Limited 10 and have over 16,000 rounds downrange. Might work well for you as well.

Default Shot what you got

Yeah, the 10 is pretty stout for IPSC, but it is paid for and I have a batch of brass/reloading stuff.

And I don't get my brass mixed up with anyone else

I've considered going with a .40 or something similar but I really really like my 1006. I've thought about buying a Glock, then I come to my senses.

You might want to check the rulebook first.

I recall reading in one of the rulebooks that disabling a factory safety device disqualifies the weapon.

I'm not sure if it was the IDPA or the IPSC rules but you should check in any event before disabling a safety device.

Cheers
Bill

I don't think you'll have any problem with removing the mag safety, the gun was available without it for agencys that didn't want it. The rule stems more from pinned grip safetys on 1911 style guns. Your main handicap is your 9rd mags. If you're handloading you can easily down load your rounds and still make major for Limited 10, or go extra low and run Production Class. Either way you'll need a lighter recoil spring probably, they use the same springs as the 4500 series.

Default Thanks

I am shooting major in Limited 10, running 155 gr around 1100 fps. I'll double check the rules to make sure it doesn't get me sideways. No sense in causing more trouble.
