Default Newbs first post , Question about a model 52-2

Never owned a smith semi auto but had a bunch of k frames however . I in a bulk trade deal picked up a smith model 52-2 with one mag just looked cool honestly its not a collector grade by any means but in decent shape i got it for around 300 bucks worth of trade goods. My question is from the few i found online all have standard triggers mine has a bobed one ? dosnt look like a home made job and are regular triggers still avail for this gun. The serial number is a4891** and has 38 special mid range on the barrel , any idea what that means or how old the gun actually is ? any info would be great , thanks

The 52 is a fantastic gun and the -2 variation is a good one. Some pictures would help identify whats going on with your trigger. You can try Numrich or other online sources for a replacement or try to find a used trigger on eBay or other auction sites. The model was dropped from production in 1993 so the factory probably does not have any, but you could call and check.

Based on serial number, it looks like your gun was made around 1979.

.38 Mid Range means the gun only fires 148 grain .38 Special Wadcutters (see picture below). It's a target gun designed for target ammo.

Here's my mid 1970s 52-2 in the original box along with the ammo it's designed for.

Someone was probably worried about hammer bite so they bobbed the hammer. There's a "new old stock" hammer listed on eBay right now.
