Found a NIB 3914
Stopped at a Mom & Pop gun store that has a NIB 3914. The box and doc are new as the day it left Smith & Wesson and comes with 3 mags. Priced at $525, came down to $500+tax. Wasn't really looking for this pistol, but it is nice and I do like to buy nice Smiths. Is this a fair price? Did a quick search and nothing current came up.

To me that's not bad at all. I would probably be all over it.

For a NIB 3914 with all docs and box, I think that's pretty good. Now, is it a regular 3914, or the ultra rare 3914NL?

Truman......... you don't sound all that interested in the 3914.
If your not "pass it forward" there are a lot of guys who would like one that nice...........
I've got two or I would be interested but ......... will share the wealth .LOL
I was joking that's a good price for a 3rd gen Smith that you don't see... it's hard to impossible to find comps.

Although I had owned a couple of 3rd Gens before, starting in late 2006 I began collecting them. From Novmeber 2006 to June 2009 I hunted down and purchased over 25 3rd Gens. After cherry picking among the 25, I ended up with 19, and still have them today.
I'm happy and content with my 3rd Gen collection. They are all in 97% or better, and most are 99% or better. There are only a couple of 3rd Gens in 99% or better condtion that would interest me enough now to pull out the old wallet. One is the 1026 and the other a 3914. So, in this case, I would've pulled my wallet out so fast I probably would've hurt my wrist . . . ouch!

Truman, just as a point of reference on price, approx. 3-4 years ago I found a standard 3913 unfired "NIB" with extra magazine, all the paperwork, etc. It was $500,00+ tax. I bought it, and glad I did. It has been an excellent pistol...
BTW, right next to it they had a Very used/worn/tired 3913NL, or LS, can't remember which, for the same price.

It all comes down to a point, how bad do you want the pistol? If someone says you paid too much, so what, does that make the pistol not shoot as well. Dealing with 3rd gen pricing is not carved in stone with a list price, its whatever you want or have to pay for the pleasure of owning it.
Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. I got lucky on the 3914 and 6904 in the picture, both came with matching box and papers but no magazines with either one. I think I paid around $300 for each. But have paid a lot more for others that were not in as good as condition.

Found a NIB 3914
Your the exception for sure and bragging a little about finding a 3914 and 6904 for that price.
Go buy a current whatever at that price, yeah right, there is not many guns that sell retail for what 3rd Gens sell for

3rd gen prices are all over the place. I've got what I consider exceptional deals, like new 5904 with two mags for $370.00, and paid at the upper end of what I thought reasonable for others. The problem is that one never knows when the model you want will appear. If you pass on it, you might never see it again.
If you see what you want and it's not taking food off the table, then I say buy it.

It's still there. It was closing time when I was looking it over, they locked the door as I was leaving.

3914
I bought a 3914nl for ?350 a few months ago. It showed holster wear but didn't look like it had been shot very much. Last month I bought a 3913 just like new for 400 to keep it company. I am very pleased with both.

about 6 mo ago I bought a 3914NL, no box etc. for $450. I would say it is in good shape. I'm cool with it.

I would not pass up the one at the LGS. I bought two 3914's NIB a couple of years ago. The first one I overpaid at $ 550.00 then the second one came up and paid $ 410.00. I am still looking to add a nice 3914NL to join my 3913 collection.

NIB 3914
If you're not going to buy it, at least be kind enough to post its location so the rest of us can fight over it.
I paid $550 for a NIB 3913NL a few years ago, and I thought that was too much back then. Now, I'm glad I bought it. I'd gladly pay $500 for a NIB 3914 today.
As my local gun store owner says: "Life is short; write the check!"

I personally think these guns are easily worth $700-$800 NIB if you compare them to anything else on the market.
We've all been lucky to buy compact 3rd gens at less than $500 LNIB or NIB.
