You mean those for 1911s? They made others as well, p.e. for SIG 210s. I don't one one and surely never will. Over here in Germany their reputation is at best so-so, not because of quality, but because of hit-or-miss when it comes to flawless function. Knew some people who had Peters Stahl 1911s, that never ran without a hiccup. If you enjoy fiddling around with something until it works, give it a try.

regards from Germany
Ulrich

Had a friend that had one for a 1911.

It was as Ulrich described.

I've seen them for 39/59 pistols, but never owned one.

I had a couple of Peter-stahl 1911's years ago. Great guns. I have a Peters-stahl 22 conversion made for Pachmayer. Accurate beyond any other I have tried. When installed per the directions supplied it worked flawlessly.

I have not heard of this particular brand before. I did a quick search and see that their list price is $2K new. I did not look into this closely, as I am not truly interested in buying one. Used prices are less, but not that much less!

To me, for that kind of money I would not buy a conversion kit because for less one can buy a brand new dedicated pistol in 22 caliber. Therefore I see no real purpose to convert a different caliber pistol. If you inherit one or run into one for a great price, maybe. I do own an original Colt Ace conversion kit with the floating chamber and it works very well, but had I not inherited it, I'd probably not buy one as I have enough 22 pistols to shoot. That said, I will keep mine and do use it every once in a while. While it is fairly accurate, it is not a tack driving accessory compared to a dedicated target pistol.

For a variety of reasons-the ammo shortage, plus I am a cheapskate-I have been shooting only 22LR the last 6-7 years, I find conversion units an excellent way to practice shooting, get familiar with handguns. I have fired my Browning HP-my first handgun-probably 30-40x more with the Ciener unit than with CF ammo, recently I have used my Christmas bonus to buy spare slides and barrels for my S&W M639 and 659 but I would still like a conversion unit for low cost practice.

I have a Ciener 1911 kit that stays on one of my .45 frames. I shoot it quite a bit. The supplied mag seemed to wear down a bit, but I bought 2 Kimber .22 mags and I'm back in business.

I have seen the conversion kits for sale at the SWCA annual symposium but they are hard to come by. I installed one on a Model 39 once for another member as he wasn't familiar with a model 39 or the kit. It was fairly easy to install and seemed to function well. Did not get a chance to shoot it.

I bought one off flea bay awhile back - installed it on my 39 but haven’t shot it yet.
