Default 1066

Dealer had a 1066 sitting alone amongst the 45s, traded a safe queen for it but do not know much about this model. I had wanted a 1006 but have not seen one in a while. Like the 10mm (used to have a Delta Elite). Haandles like a dream but havent shot it yet. Anyone know much about these. Thanks

They are very nice SA/DA pistols 4.25" barreled, with the slide mounted decocker. The take up on the trigger bothers some people especiall the 1911 shooters.

You may want to get a new recoil spring from Wolff Gun Springs...

Recoil Spring
For Use in:
4566, 4567, 4576, 4586, .45 ACP
1066, 1076, 1086, 10mm

•Reduced Power...: 14 & 16 Lb.
•Factory Standard.: 17 Lb.
•Extra Power........: 18, 19, 20 & 22 Lb.
Springs for SMITH & WESSON NUMBERED SERIES Semi-Auto Pistols

I run the 20lb in mine to help keep spent brass a little closer, They are tough and will handle even the the most powerful loads like those from Underwood Ammo. You may find the 22lb to be a little tough to rack the slide in defensive situations. Please read the warnings on the Wolff Gun Springs site of thisngs to look for should issues appear.

They do ship new firing pin spring with the purchase of a recoil spring or with a calibration kit.

Good luck and enjoy!

I saw one at a gun show last week. $750 firm. That's seems to be about the going rate plus or minus. I have a 1006 waiting for me to pick up at my FFL Monday and another 1076 on the way. The 1066 will have to wait but is on my shopping list. Good luck with it.

You will love the 1066. Shoots like a dream. I'd prolly rank mine as follows:

1) 1026
2) 1066
3) 1076
4) 1006

They are all heavy duty, handload ready 10mm launching platforms - nothing wrong with any of them.

I do not have a 1086 currently but the DAO trigger on them is smooooooooooth. Someday I'll pick up another while continuing to foam-at-the-mouth for a 1046!

I have a 1086,1076 and 1006..

Sitlll need a 1026, 1066 and of course the Grail of all Grails.. a 1046. And then the PC pistols and a 610....and a Bren TEN

I would rank mine
1076
1086
1006
And my 1076 is one of the original FBI guns that went to Quantico VA in 1990. Not that I'm bragging or anything
Oh.. and I have a Colt delta Elite new production and a Block 20...
10mm's rule!

All you folks with multiple 10mm S&Ws are my idols! I'm just learning about the S&W 10s and having a tough time getting just one.

This is a S&W forum after all...

I originally set out with the goal of acquiring one of each 10mm. Far easier to do than with most other calibers.

I still troll around for 310 or 610 in barrel lengths that I do not already have. That is proving expensive when I do score a hit...

I've had my 1066 for a couple of years and really think the S&W models are the best 10mm pistols made. My experience has been that my 1066 is very strong, quite accurate and reliable.

I have a 1006, 1076 and 1066. I like the 1066 the best overall.

I think the balance is a tad better on the shorter guns, and I'm used to the safety/hammer-drop on the slide. So the 1066 is my favorite, but the others run real close.

Are factory replacement parts still available for the 1076? Is there a firearms disassembly manual available (for complete disassembly, not just to field strip) for the 1076?
