Default 380 Body Guard

I recently purchased a 380 Body Guard from a local gun shop. The owner told me the previous owner had never fired the weapon. I'm having problems with the magazine popping out when I put the slightest pressure on the magazine extension. This only happens when the magazine has four or more bullets in it. It happens without the magazine elease being pressed. When the magazine is loaded with three or less bullets it does not pop out. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any solutions other than returning the gun?

I have not experienced this problem with mine regardless of which magazine I use. Have you tried another?

I wouldn't go so far as to return it, could be an easily and quickly and cheaply repaired minor issue such as maybe an ill fitting magazine or spring or other mechanical adjustment.

I only know a little bit about 3rd. Gens. and nothing about the Bodyguard, but here goes. Is this your first automatic pistol?

Are you sure the magazine is seated? Insert it and try to pull/pry it out. It should not move. If it comes out, smack it in harder with the heel of your hand and repeat.

When metalic cartridges are in the magazine , it will be harder to seat than when the mag is empty!

There is a slot on your magazine (left side) that catches the mag release button. If the slot does not line up with the mag, it will come out.

Also, if the magazine catch (the part attached to the button) does not go in far enough, it will not catch the magazine. It may be sticking or out of position.

Talk to your LGS and ask them to take a look at it if you still have trouble. The items I mentioned are easily fixed.

Unfortunaly, S&W (like YUGO) will only warrant the gun to the original buyer.

The gun shop owner is going to order another magazine. However, I understand there is a backorder on the magazines, so they are hard to get. I've owned several automatics. I am in law enforcement, so I'm used to handling guns. Mostly Glocks. I've tried everything to get the magazine to stay in.

Thanks for the update. I wasn't sure how much experience you had since you mentioned "bullets"

Try CDNN Sports for a mag. Catalog 2012-5, page 58. Good luck.

Remove and empty the mag, lock the slide back and check the movement of the magazine release. Slide the empty mag into the mag well and, looking down into the top of the mag well, see how the mag release engages the top of the magazine. It should extend over the edge of the right edge of the mag. Is the mag release worn? Is the slot on the mag (front right side of the mag) flush or dented in? My BG 380 has well over 500 rounds through it, has been carried every day for 3 years, has some magazine slop and still holds 6+1 functioning properly. You may have a worn mag release or a bent magazine all of which you can replace yourself or send to S&W for repair. Call CS. They may repair it for nothing. They have done that for me with guns I have purchased as second owner. Now I have purchase a lot of new S&Ws and never owned a Glock, so... that may count for something... you think?

Guess I should have said "rounds" instead of "bullets". LOL. Thanks for the heads up on where to order.

Unlike rifle mags, I found the 380 mag readily available last week. I ordered two from MidwayUSA two weeks ago and have two more coming in after Christmas... they are still reasonably priced since they are only 6 round mags. JME.

The CDNN link didn't work for me...got the dreaded 404 error.

I agree with what the other posters are saying regarding the mag release. If this gun has never been fired i would try oiling the release real good as over the years it my have dried out and be sticking in the wrong position somewhat. I would try to slowly work it back and forth after the oiling is done as well.
