Default shorty 40 mk3...what a gem!

Have to bounce this off you guys...shorty 40mk3 blue no box or papers, used in excellent condition. Been looking for one and this one's asking price is $935. What do you think? I appreciate any help from those who have seen more of these than I have.

They don't come up that offen so if you really want one you probably need to go for it. I like having all the original stuff that comes with a new gun, but the MK3 Shortys' came in a regular S&W blue plastic box nothing special.

They bring around $1250 or more ANIB, so that's probably not way high. Is it for sale some place where you can make an offer?

Default Shorty...

Do you really want only the blue version? That will play a role in price & availability....

I like both the blue and stainless version although probably stainless would be 1st choice only due to ease of care. I have only seen a few of the stainless and they were all north of $1k. This blue one has the adjustable sights which I like and not all have. There is a blue one on Guns America LNIB asking $1450 so hard to know what it would sell for but I doubt if it would come down near the $935 selling price of the one I have in mind. Stainless one on GB (not a mk3 or adjustable sights) starting at $1300 but has been relisted with no takers at that price.

Thinking the $935 might be as good as I will do!

The price on the pistol is going to depend on several things, most importantly location and secondly how bad you want it. If you feel that is a fair price buy it! The Shorty 40 is a great pistol, I have two. The price seems a little steep to me, but then again they won't make any more of them. I purchased both of my in the early-mid 90s when these pistols were new and gave roughly what they are asking for this one for each.

The MkIII is the most common of the Shorty 40s, they come in blue and stainless with adjustable sights. You will be very happy with this pistol should you decide to purchase it.

Cheers,
Sam

Bought it. Stiff price but it will be my first PC gun and look forward to it. I have a couple of 3rd gen Smiths and like them so am hoping this is ever better. My autos now officially out number my revolvers by 1 which I would have never predicted! But the different calibers keep calling my name...funny 'cause all my revolvers are .357...every one! My fear is that I will like the Shorty 40 too much and begin the search for the stainless version or, God help me, the Shorty 45! Already have a couple of 1911's though so not sure how I could justify that.

Don't want to bore the forum with my stuff but I will probably post when it arrives. Thanks for the help.

That is not fear but a peep into the future. It is also the first symptom of the S&W 3rd Gen ADDICTION. If you shoot a Performance Center 3rd Gen the addiction becomes uncontrollable.

Yes it does, but lucky for you there are lots of friends here to help in your hour of need. Speaking of which, I have a real pretty Shorty 45 that I think you...

Got to the range today...this gun makes me look good! This was from 25' and of course there is the obligatory flier.

This was a good purchase and has very quickly become one of my favorite pistols.

lhump,

Unless there is something dramactically wrong with the Shorty, it will group like that at 25 yards. Or better. Not critisizing your shooting, just saying.

For fun, load an empty case in the middle of your mag next time you're out shooting. The only way you'll know it's chambered is 'cause nothing'll happen when the hammer falls. Open the slide, and there's the empty all happy in the chamber!

My Shorty 45 will do that and it will also feed an empty slowly by hand from the mag.

So congrats on your (first!) Performance Center piece! You're in trouble now.

Interesting user name by the way . . .

The only way my Shorty would group like that at 25yds is in the hands of a better shooter...
