Model 41 Pickup
Came across this on GunsAmerica for $700 and couldn't resist. Seems like they usually go for more. Missing the box and it has a small chip out of the bottom of the wood. Serial number puts it around 1977 I think. Click on the pic to embiggen.

Good price . I bought one a few months ago ,circa 1967 for $800 and I thought I did well.
It`s a great shooting pistol and I especially like the way it feels in the hand- very 1911 ish, at least to me that`s how it feels.
The only pistol that shoots better - at least in my humble collection - is my wife`s Browning Medalist.

It appears to have the seldom seen oversized trigger guard, which is a plus. This optional feature was the result of some shooters complaining about their trigger finger dragging on the regular guard.
For comparison, regular guard is installed with oversized guard below.

Wow, I must have looked at listings for 20 different 41's without ever noticing there were two types of trigger guards. I wonder when the oversized one was introduced?

MArktAZ - you could look at 1000 41s and probably not see an OS Trigger Guard - few shipped as such -most were add-ons or special request.

My 41
Nice find!
I've recently become a big fan of the S&W Model 41 myself.
I swapped a 1975 Marlin 39A, even up, for my Model 41 last week.
It only came with one mag, so I ordered a couple of new ones online, and they work perfectly.
I had a High Standard (Hamden) Trophy years ago and I like the Smith much, much better!
Good shootin' !
Jesse

IMHO, the Model 41 is the finest auto S&W ever made.
I have one made in 1979, which I bought used in 1984 for $290.
In 1986 I had it refinished in electroless nickle by Baystate Arms in Southboro Mass, with 2 mags it cost me $65. One of the best investments I ever made, because I've shot countless thousands of rounds from it since and the finish has held up wonderfully.

I have also fired a lot of rounds thru my 41 and my 46 and love both of them dearly. I don't even bother to look at other makes and models anymore as its a waste of my time when I already have the very best.
