Default Early model 4513TSW -- Mags are a bit different?

I ordered three new 6 round mags from CDNN and they just came today. Two have the stock flat plate and one has a pinky rest curve in it.

The flat ones fit perfectly, while the curved one is much narrower than the grip. Measuring them the curved one is just under 7/8" wide on the base and the flat ones are a hair over an inch. They all came in identical bags, with the same part number.

I called CDNN and the service rep said S&W made two different mags for the gun and it was just luck of the draw to get the same base for all three. I am to ship the one oddball back and if they can't find a flat base they'll return my money.

Is the curved pinky base for a CS45 or something?

ETA: Above the second shell witness hole on the mag with the pinky hook there is an additional molded groove just below the mag lip that you can see in the picture. Maybe that means something?

I have the 7 shot mags so that is not much help, but they look like the one on the left in your photos, except for that groove, which looks more like a dent. ?

18DAI should be along shortly, he can clarify.

It sounds like that you have mags for the 4513TSW and the CS45. I have both guns and the base plates are different. Since I am currently in Afghanistan without access to my guns, I can't tell you which mag is which.

The 6 round finger rest is the CS mag, the crease was added to the newer design. The oval floorplate was for the early '98-99 TSW with the cut out grip. Later TSWs' used a 7rd with the finger rest base.

LL, did you just order 3 mags and that's what were sent? I could use a few but would ask specifically for the "oval" ones, now that I know. Btw, good deal on the mags with free shipping.

My wife has an early 45 TSW, (no lightrail) I thought it came with 3 mags , all with the oval baseplates, but also had 3 finger extension ones in the box, so you could choose. Course my memory isnt that good, she like the finger hook ones, but she has small hands, so it helps keep her grip. Bob

Like handgunner356 pointed out, the mag on the left in your photo is for a CS45. Those extra indents were there for holding the round in place during the increased recoil of the CS45.

CALREB recalls correctly. The early 4513TSW's came with extra alternate mag bases - the ones with the "fingerlifts". In case the rounded ones on the mags were not to the customers liking. Regards 18DAI

Thanks 18DAI, that means that CDNN has them all labeled the same and is selling them as the same magazine, which I think is wrong. They may fit and function, but they don't match the grip.

FedEx is picking the oddball one on the left up today and I hope they send me a new one like the one on the right.

IIRC Fastbolt cautioned us not to use the CS45 mags in our 4513TSw's for serious purpose...........although I can't recall why......??? He did say range use was fine.

Were I you, I'd just keep the mag for when you get your CS45. You know you will buy one eventually. Regards 18DAI
