Default Hammer question on a 645

Does the hammer on the 645 stay cocked when unloaded? I just inherited a stainless 645 a couple days ago and have yet to fire her. I've been messing around with her, magazine removed and completely unloaded, the hammer never stays cocked?! Is this normal? I'd like to go shot her but I don't want to be toting around the range with a disaster waiting to happen. Any help? Thanks all!

Unless the pistol has been messed with, the hammer will stay cocked whenever the slide is cycled until/unless the safety/decocking lever is pushed down. If the gun is hand-cycled with the safety/decocking lever in the down position, the hammer will follow the slide when it goes forward.

Your a lucky man. I love that .45! It's a shame that the 10mm put the brakes on its manufacturing. My father owns one, and won't let anyone touch it. That magnificient pistol just stays locked up in the safe. I hope to find a nice one someday. Enjoy.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I've been tinkering with my gun and it honestly appears to me that this 645 is DA only!? Is it possible it was made like this or should I take it to a smith? Thanks.
