Sounds like a transitional model distributed by RSR during the time S&W was transitioning from the second generation (645) to the third generation (4506). It is my understanding that they distributed several pistols in 9 mm and .45 ACP during this time that were somewhat of a specialty run with each variant having a hybrid model number (second and third generation model numbers "combined").
I am certainly not an expert. Just my two cents.
I would check the model number and serial number stamped in the frame and make sure it matches the box.
