Default 539 compared with 39 and 39-2

I have a 539 on the way. how does it compare with the 39 and 39-2 and the Gen 3 full size single stack pistols. I have a 908 and like it a lot. I am on my way to becoming a smith collector.

Congratulations on your new 539. It compares closely to the 39-2. Pretty much the same pistol with some safety and reliability changes. It is a bit heavier due to the steel frame. My 639 (same pistol except in stainless) fed anything I cared to load in the magazine and was service pistol accurate. You are lucky to have acquired a 539 and probably know they are not a common find. You are going to have a lot of fun with it! Enjoy.

thanks for the responses. I kind of prefer the blued look over stainless or nickel, so this is a good choice for me. maybe a 910 or 915 next. And a LGS has a 469 if I feel the need for another compact. talk about addicting.

Great find, they feel good in the hand and follow up shots are a breeze with 38 ozs taking the recoil. The down side, the frt sight, none removable and no dot, its hard to see in low light conditions. I don't care for the half cock position on the hammer, but that just me, others like it. 3rd gen guns have a pressed in barrel bushing, yours is removable . 3rd gens have the one piece grip the 1st and 2nd gens are wood with a removable alloy back strap. Did I miss anything ? I have 2 639s that I will die with and welcome to the addiction .
