Default S&W 1911 bought this week.....

It's a J series and although three years old was new at the dealer. He had bought several and this was the last one.
I lubed it up and took it shooting. The rear sight was very hard to move.
However except for two light primer hits it did very well and is super accurate.
I notice it is heavier than the Colt auto.
When I went to clean it I could not get the recoil spring plug (S&W calls it a cap) to move back so I could strip it. I had to drive it back. Not good.
I called S&W to advise and the rep said that was a problem with some and he'd send me a new cap.
I don't know how they ever got that cap to seat in the first place.
I see it is stainless with a black finish. Looks great.
Looking forward to more shooting.
This is my first S&W auto. I do have a couple of wheelguns.

Would love to see some pics of your new 1911. Also take some pics of the cap that is giving you a problem. I have three smith 1911s and have never had a problem taking them apart. The cap should not be tight at all, when you turn the bushing it should fall out.

Congrats on your new W1911. I've had more than a few of these and they were all excellent shooters and a joy to handle. Even today, Although I have more expensive 1911's in the safe, i often reach past them to take my early production SW1911 to the range.

I can't post pics. A buddy put the cap on his drill press and sanded it down. Said he noticed a bulge in the front part of it. You could not see it just by looking. Works fine now, although the bluing is gone.

Great. How old is your 1911? When I called S&W the guy said "it's about four years old". I said "maybe, but I bought it new yesterday". I knew it was about three years old.

I just shot my new 1911 and really love it, stainless and looks as good as it shoots. While mine is very stiff it gave me no problems cleaning.

Did you get the new e-series Guys1911? Because when you say stiff I know what you mean. When I took my apart the first time I though something was wrong.
