Default Model 52 Factory Loads

A shot in the dark here but does anyone know, or hazard to guess what Remington used to load their .38 wad cutter
ammo commonly used in the Model 52? I'm talking powder/wgt.
To refresh your memory they were labeled "REMINGTON KLEANBORE TARGETMASTER 38 SPECIAL 146 GRAIN WADCUTTER"
Thank you.

It is my understanding that the factory loadings could change any of the components, including the powders and charge weight, from one lot number to another. All that was required was that the loadings were within specifications, (i.e. pressure, bullet weight, velocity, etc.). Most handloaders I've talked to load somewhere between 2.7 - 3.0 grs. of Bullseye, with a 148 gr. hollow base bullet. Some shooters also swear by Win. 231 powder but I don't remember the weight of the powder charge. Always refer to loading manuals before using any loadings, some actually used to list factory duplication loads, like the older Lyman manuals.

I hope this helps,
Steve

I don't know if this will help you but I'll throw it out there anyway.
Back in '68, I used a M52-1 for bullseye shooting.
I had a very good source for W-W factory 148 gr. HBWC ammo by the case. It functioned 100% in my 52-1 and gave me a good source of brass to reload.
My point, back then 2.7 gr. of Bullseye was "the" 25 yd. load with a 148 gr. HBWC and 3.0 gr. was "the" 50 yd. load.
My 52-1 shot to the same POI at 50 yds. with the factory load or my reload w/3.0 gr. of Bullseye.
I used the R-P 148 gr. HBWC due to availabilty and price, I worked at a LGS at the time.

Default 52-2 loads

Hello,
Please e-mail me at [email protected]. I have the Gil Hebard article on the 52-2 that he did so many years ago. IT is very good reading,
and good to have to share with Other Future forum members asking the same info.
