A local gun store has a like new 1076 with box, papers and tools. The gun looks great but it has a black finish is this factory? Serial # TEUxxxx & Product Code 9SH FS DL SB. It has 2 mags 1 silver & 1 black, what would be a fair price?

The #TEU sereal prefix I believe is one of the FBI guns. Run of the mill 1076's are selling for $800.00 in Ohio I do not know of a black factory finish on a 1076. What are they asking for it.

Never heard of a black 1076, but with S&W anything is possible. Could be a salesman's sample, or something odd like that, but I think the only way you would know for sure is to send for a factory letter ($50).

With one mag black and one SS, I think you are probably looking at an after-market finish. If the finish is non-factory but in good shape and the mechanics are OK, the gun would be a $400-$500 item, to me - assuming it is something like Melonite. If it is just paint, considerably less - like lots less.

10 mm is a great round. All of the third generation autos generally run really well. And you do not see them very often for sale.

I would buy the like new one for $600. (When you say like new, I assume you mean this is not the black one?)

I happen to like 1076s and have never had any trouble with the two I have owned.

The TEU serial does not necessarily indicate that this is an FBI gun. I have 4 1076's and have never heard or seen a black model. I suspect this was done by a previous owner.

If the $600 "like new" is the normal stainless and truly is in that condition looks and mechanics wise, I'd jump on it. You'll likely find it difficult to come close to that price.

The "black" 1076 is not original but if it is TEU with a number lower than 0350, roughly, than it might be worth grabbing. The factory might be able to buff out the non-facotry bluing and get it close to the original SS finish. Also, the slide could be from an entirely different gun altogether. There really would be no way of knowing as they are not numbered like the frames. The only potential indicator would be a "10mm" that was printed inside the slides just above where the barrel would sit but that wasn't done 100% of the time.

I actually have a spare 1076/1086 slide that has the original finish that could be used to replace it.

Sure would like to see some pics of both.
