Default How to remove safety on 3rd gen.

I have a Briley .356TSW race gun and, in order to clean the gun, I must remove the slide safety, so that it clears the scope mount. I have seen this done, and know there is a tricky maneuver to prevent the internal spring in the safety mechanism from flying away. Also, it would be helpful to have reassembly instructions....This is just something I never do, and it is necessary for this semi-auto.... please send me a direct Email.

Same as "removing firing pin" video on you tube. Video #3 I think. Two springs in the safety assembly.

I dont know if your Single Action has a firing pin safety.

lock slide to rear.

if it has a firing pin safety...depress the firing pin safety plunger and hold.

at the same time depress the firing pin and release the firing pin safety plunger.

begin to depress the safety block body out of the slide. at one point...you will have to depress the firing pin a little further to clear the safety block.

there will be a detent and plunger but there should be no fear of those parts flying. but doing this process in a large ziploc baggie is a precaution to capture flying parts.

keep pushing out and depress the firing pin safety to release the firing pin with the back of the slide pointed down.

if there is no firing pin safety system....you will need to keep the firing pin depressed while working the safety block out.

a 1/16" punch will do for firing pin depression. you want to use something non marring if the safety block is stubborn at first movement.

good luck

this one is easier said than done..... sometimes.

also his gun is nice....a third hand is required or wrap it in a rag to keep it from getting scratched.

that pesky add on is the culprit.....a dremel will make disassembly much easier :P

I just saw the thumb screws on the optic.....taking the optic off will make it much easier to handle!!

Are you NUTS! I'm not bringing a dremel anywhere near this work of art. It was installed without a dremel, it's coming apart without a dremel. It appears to me as pretty cut and dry non-ambi safety/de-cocker removal operation. There is just one plunger/safety spring that can fly - when you're pulling the de-cocker/safety out. Most of the time it won't fly but, as a long standing standard precaution I cover it with my palm.
