What is the going price for a 4566
former LE, holster wear, but mechanically sound. California range, and what the more sane world prices.
thanks in advance

Locally around $450 for well used with holster rash and 1 mag, up to $550 for LNIB with 2 mags or more.
IF you could find one locally! I advise you to buy it, shoot it, love it!
I have one in my holster and I'm keeping it. Great 45 pistol. Regards 18DAI

A 4566TSW made without the rail, is a WHOLE different story. Very few of them around, comparitively, and WELL worth $600 if in any good condition at all. If its one of the Kentucky State Police models $600 is a steal going by what they bring at auction and in the classifieds here.
Used with holster rash and one mag I'd easily pay $500 to obtain one. If in LNIB condition I'd consider anything less than $600 a good deal - for a RAIL FREE 4566TSW.
For a 4566TSW with the rail or holes in the dust cover where the rail was...........I never noticed enough difference in accuracy, and no difference in reliability, between a late production standard 4566 and a railed 4566TSW. I'd go with a standard 4566 to avoid the rail. So I'd pass at $600......and probably wouldn't bite till it was less than $500. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

The last TSW 4566 I saw was offered for $650, with box, but in used cond. They also had a 4006 for $599 (Kinda high in my book).

I have no will power. I bought the 4566. a gunsmith friend picked best of bunch for me. It will be a little while with CA paperwork and my schedule. As soon as I have it in hand, will post some pics of it and its siblings, the 908 and the 539.

I just picked up a 4566 in exc condition for $581 w/ mags. Very pleased to have got it.
After a long time away from S&W Autos, I've found my way back to them with a flurry of finds and impulse buys.

18DAI - will do a range report shortly after taking possession. I'll be juggling the California 10 day hold and my crazy work schedule. I've have my 539 for a month and maybe will get to the range tomorrow for the first time.

I saw one tonight (locally so no FFL or shipping) online for $650 and 4 mags . Wouldn't you know I'm in a bit of a financial crunch and won't have the cash for a couple weeks. I want one soooooooo bad and this one is clean as far as I can see from pics. Dang it!
The price for this area is fairly good from what I've seen, maybeI'll offer $600 with a layaway plan and see if the guy will go for it.

If you're in my 'hood I'd be all over it.
Kalifornistan premium for used pistols generally runs $200-$300 - ish over Free States prices depending on scarcity & desirability & well... what somebody figures it's worth.
A 4566 for $600 would have me reaching for my wallet so fast I'd probably hurt something.

My feelings exactly... an "off roster" 3rd gen model that's not common in CA... that would usually be in the $800 - $900, and even as high as a grand, if not higher.
To the OP... congrats!! You lucky dog.

I'd say that $600 is a good price at the moment. You'll have a hard time getting any 4566 for less on Gunbroker - they've been selling in the $650-$800 range lately, and that's regular 4566's as well as the TSW version.
