M-41 muzzle brake
A freind of mine bought a box of gun related parts and ammo and in the box was two M-41 muzzle brakes. one blued and one in brushed nickle. He has no use for them and wants to sell them, can anyone give me a ballpark value? The blued one has wear on the high edges and is dirty, the brushed nickel just looks dirty.

I would like to thank everyone for their comments, I will pass them on to my friend.

Hello,
I would post this in the S&W Semi Auto forum. I occasionally see the brakes on eBay and GB. I would do a search and see what they sold for. The brushed nickel one, S&W never made the 41 in nickel to the best of my knowledge. The brakes are made out of aluminum. Could it be that the finish has been completely removed to give it a satin look to it?

Tell him to look closely and see if the original screws are in the box

The blued one is probably worth $50-$75 depending on how much finish is actually gone. As stated, the other sounds like its had all of the anodized finish removed and would be less than $50. S&W did make a very few documented Nickel Model 41s but its highly unlikely this brake is Nickel.

brakes
In Excellent condition the brakes have sold for $145.00. In lesser condition the price falls as Civil stated.
I believe there were 3 variations of the Brakes, as the earliest ones were slightly longer, and or had more vents.
The False Caps sell in the $45.00 range. The Screw for these sells in the $15.00 range, although a modified 5/40 SHCS Can be used in its place.
I do have a Crome False cap, I would like to see your Nickel brake.
Drop me an e-mail, [email protected]
Thanks.

G’day smithfan4152,
You mention there are 3 variations of brake and give details of 2 what is the third?
I have examples of the longer brake with 3 vents and the shorter brake also 3 vents.
Information of a third type of brake would be appreciated as this would mean I need to lookout for another gun with the example, never a bad thing.
Cheers.

brakes
I could swear one version had 4 grooves not 3. I will need to look at some old photos, if I still have them, or even some of the recent sales on GB of early 41s. I will get back if I can locate photos, or get confirmation from Tom B. Here on the forum.

I don't know about different versions but there were definitely variations in manufacturing. Never heard of or seen a Model 41 muzzle brake with four slots.

as mentioned again, I stand corrected, there were never one with 4, it was just my imagination running away with me. Senior moments.
