Question Smith 1911 Grip Safety Experience/Recommedations

I'm a long time 1911 shooter and a huge fan of the Smith offerings.

I've converted many nay sayers about the external extractors and other foolishness when they've taken the time to actually shoot one of mine, or seen some of the groups mine are capable of shooting without a single hiccup.

Anyway, I have a friend that wants to replace his blued grip safety with a matte stainless one.

Knowing that I tinker with a firearm or two he's asked me which one to get.

Well guys, the truth is I don't know? I like the look of mine with stainless and blued controls, so mine are stock.

He likes the the look of the Ed Brown memory groove models, but I ain't wanting to tell him to get one and have it be a pain to fit.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks' In Advance, CD

I have been using a Brown grip safety on my Colt 1911 for about 15 years. It has functioned as intended. That being said, almost any after market grip safety is going to have to be fitted or adjusted somewhat. Safeties are not necessarily drop in pieces.

P.S. given the fact that S&W has seen fit to change an extractor design that has functioned well for over 100 years, who knows what else they have changed? Are you sure they have no somehow monkeyed with the grip safety design or specs?

I'm not sure of anything concerning the grip safety on the Smith 1911's, thus my thread.

I ain't willing to modify the pistol to fit one. The grip safety ain't that expensive, so if I bugger one up it'll be ok.

I'm well aware of parts requiring some fitting. I'm looking for info from those that know which require the least to function in the Smith frames.
