Exclamation Burris Fastfire III And 22A NOT!

If you have a S&W 22A and thinking of a Burris red dot sight, think again. The mount that is supposed to fit Weaver rails does not fit the rail on the 22A.

The cross bar on the mount is too thick for the cross groove on the rail. This causes the sight to rock like a see saw.

The sight is very nice and well constructed, but impossible to sight in. Tried it on both my barrels. Same problem.

Is the rail that comes on the 22A a full spec Weaver?

Might be a Picatinny rail, similar to a Weaver, but accessories for one may not always fit the other.

Weaver mounts will fit a Picatinny rail, but not the other way around.

If you use a round chainsaw file to enlarge the grooves it will work.

Instead of enlarging the grooves on the gun, file down the cross pin on the Burris mount. This is what I had to do to get the mount to work on my 7" 22A. Made 4 flat sides then slowly rounded the points. It's not pretty or perfect but it works.

How do you get the crosspin out of the mount? Mine seems to be attached pretty solidly.

Thanks, I already have the Fastfire and the Picatinny mount for it, so I'd rather modify the mount that I have.

Fast fire III is a picatinny mount. I am going to get one for my 500 mag, and after looking around found that Jack Wigand makes a mount that allows for both styles. They may make one for the 22a.
