Default High Velocity ammo in Model 41

I apologize if this has already been asked and answered but didn't it in recent threads. I have 1971 vintage model 41 and like everyone else I'm having trouble finding any std vel ammo. Does anyone know if using a recoil buffer and/or an 8 lb. spring will alleviate potential damage from high vel ammo such as CCI MiniMag?
Thanks for your input.

It's your gun. Do with it what you please.
Personally I would not.
Maybe you can find some other Std velocity ammo.

Crazy world. My 41 from 1980 wants CCI MiniMags. It does not like any 22 that are not high velocity, Just gave away several hundred to a revolver owner because my 41 would not shoot the light 34 gr load.

By the way, it has fired thousands of CCI MiniMag's for over thirty years.

I don't shoot Mini-mags in my two M41s, but I am on my third case of CCI Blazer. Both have a recoil buffer and do not appear battered compared to new ones at a gun show.

I have a c.1980 model 41 that's still pretty new to me. It would not reliably cycle with Aquila or CCI standard velocity ammo. I had every manner of malfunction you can think of. I tried some CCI mini-mags, and it did improve the cycling significantly. The factory recoil spring in a model 41 is 7.5 lbs. So I ordered a 6.5 lb. spring from Wolff Springs. It made a tremendous difference, I'd say at least a 90% improvement in cycling reliability. I just ordered a 6 lb. spring, which is the lightest they make, and I plan to try that out and see if I can squeeze a little bit more reliability out of it.

These are target guns, and I don't believe they were intended to shoot the HV stuff. Having said that, a model 41 is a lot more robust than any High Standard pistol, and I think you'd have to shoot a lot of HV .22 in one before you'd see any indications of battering. I've heard good things about the buffers, and with one installed, I see no reason you couldn't shoot HV ammo through a 41.

I guess my point is that you have to first decide which type ammo you want to shoot, and then add or change components until you get good reliability that is not going to beat up your gun.

Glad to read this thread.I recently got a 41 and have
struggled to get CCI standard velocity ammo because I
was under the notion this was the way to go. It functions
fine with the std velocity and with little recoil it is very
accurate and returns to poa very nicely.I do not doubt other claims that HV is ok and they have had no long term ill
effects, however I will keep doing the SV until it becomes no
longer available. Pete

The Blazer ammo will not work in my guns but do work fairly well in our clubs m41. We have about 12 guns for the students to use but only one is a 41. They all rush to be there 1st to get it every Thursday night. Funny to watch needless to say.

Mine was like that until I got a new recoil spring.
Now it shoots Remington match all the way up to mini-mags, with a recoil buffer/block.
