Default Model 41 rear sight.

Howdy all.

I have a model 41, that is completely stock. I did all my bullseye shooting with an Ultra-Dot mounted on top. I recently removed it so that I could do some range work and instructing with the iron sights. The gap in the rear sight appears to be the exact width as that of the front sight blade. With perfect sight alighnment, the rear sight appears as a solid block with no daylight visible along the sides of the front sight.

I would like the rear sight to have a wider gap. I had thought about having it milled a bit wider, but thought I would check to see if there is a replacement rear sight for this gun that has a wider gap. In this way, I could keep the original rear sight as is, in case I ever decide to sell it and want to put it back to original status.

So, are there replacement adjustable rear sights for the model 41?

Thanks,

Why not set your sight picture with the target center sitting on top of the front sight instead of being covered? I have 3 S&W 41s and have never found this to be a problem. New or old 41?

It is set to a 6 o' clock hold. That is not the problem. My eyes are not what they used to be, and I like to see at least a sliver of daylight along the sides of the front sight when it is lined up in the center of the rear sight. This gun is probably about 16 years old.

you can call the Smith custom shop and see if they can mill the front like the new 41s with the removable front blade. Only problem you couldn't return it to original.
