Default Best 3rd gen to add reflex sight to

What is the best or easiest 4" or better 3rd generation Smith to put a small reflex sight on? What challengs should I expect? Are there any models that just wont do it like some of the earlier ones with all of the mechanics under the rear sight?

Well Sir.... that still applies to the 3rd Gen pistols, the rear sight still holds the spring loaded plungers in place that you see extending from the underside of the slide.

There is no easy way of installing optics.

In another post, it was asked if the adjustable rear sights (the ones with the protective "ears") on a 3rd gen were removed, could a reflex sight be installed in it's place using the same slide cut out? I replied no, after measuring the cutout length and base on my Burris Fastfire III, the cutout was too short.

But that brought up an interesting "what if". It appeared to me that an adapter base could be made to fit in that rear sight cut out. There are no ready made ones as far as I know, so it would be a special project undertaking... which is something that has piqued my interest in pursuing, as it would be easier adapt something on a adjustable sight slide than one with the narrow fixed dovetail sight slot..
