WVSP 4566
So now that the WSVP 4566 is on the auction site, I wonder how many of us that say we will pay top $ for an almost new 3rd gennie will do it?
I recognized at least one screen name on the list of bidders. I know I bid, but of course it didn't meet the reserve price.
Going back and looking at all two threads about the pistol, I can pretty much guess (with I think some degree of accuracy) what the reserve price is. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am.
I'll probably bid again, but I doubt what I want to pay and what the seller thinks it is worth are anywhere close.
I guess it remains to be seen.
So, did you bid?

In my opinion it is not worth 4 times what a standard 4566 sells for. But I am not a collector.

Somebody's getting it , it met reserve. I don't think it's worth the $1600 it's at now, but it is to someone. Beautiful pistol, but not worth that to me, about $600 too high for me.

A cool gun for sure and I wouldn't mind owning one. However, $1600 is absolutely insane!

They sold new for around $750, not very long ago.
$1600????? Well, maybe PT Barnum had it right. Regards 18DAI

If that thing had a 5 inch barrel and a spurred hammer, it would be my dream gun.

Ye-ow!!!
That thing sold for $1675!!!
I'll point that out next time we have a thread about "why doesn't S & W produce a new 3rd gennie" pistol and someone replies "no one will pay that much for it".
Personally, I bid up to $1650 on the bugger.
Drat...snatched from my grasp by $25!!!!
LOL, guess it just wasn't meant to be.

4506517 For $850 - $1100 you could get yourself a PC 4566 45 CQB. More gun for less money.
The WVSP 4566 is a nice gun, but is it really $1675 nice? Not to me. And I want one too. Regards 18DAI

Maybe I should stop a WV trooper and see what happened to his. I might get a strange look from them though. I'd go for one in the $1000 to $1200 range.

$1675 is way too much for me. I'd love to have one of these. I live in Morgantown, WV and I've been seeing a lot of troopers carrying what look like the M&P 45. If there is a transition taking place, we might see some more of these becoming avaliable at a more affordable price. I just love these Smith and Wesson Gen 3 pistols. I definately understand the allure.

Since the WVSP 4566 went for that much, I'm in the state next door to WV does that mean my Kentucky State Police 4566TSW just went up in value??? Especially since Kentucky never adopted the 4566.

I also have a KSP 4566TSW and I have the same question as you Mike. I sure hope this has caused our pistols to increase in value. Of course our pistols are stainless finish whereas the WVSP 4566 are the less common black. By the way Mike, I share your interest in Mustangs as well and have talked to you at a few car shows (NMRA for example).

The WVSP is not a commemorative firearm. As I understand, those that are available were from the contract over run. Search the forum for WVSP 4566. There are plenty pictures, even one in a trooper's holster. These pistols also have an integral rail, a rarity for a 3rd gen pistol.

So do you think even used these can only go up in value?

Eventually I think the value on these Melonite 4566TSWs will increase. But a quick perusal of completed auctions on GB shows a decline in pricing over the last year on these pistols.
With only around 750 made, they are a scarce variant. But the number of 3rd gen collectors is quite small, at this point in time.
VERY nice 45, but with a limited market these days. Most buyers are looking for striker fired plastic guns. In 9mm. Regards 18DAI

You do not see them for sale very often, there is one on A list out of Louisville Ky. The picture does show some wear asking 750.

Some seller had 3 on there the other day for $850 a piece buy it now. That’s about twice what I’d be willing to pay but I’m a cheap ***.
