Anyone every carry a 6946? Price Check
I found a very nice condition 6946 at my LGS with no box for $350 OTD. I have been more and more interested in carrying a DAO semi auto and this looks like it fits the bill. SO does a Kel Tec but I like Smiths especially 1-3rd Gen. Novak low mount sight but not night sights. I have plenty of mags from my 469 and 669s.
So what is the skinny on these? Anyone ever use one?
Mike

I shoot one but don't carry. Good shooter with a smooth trigger. I like the thinner slide with no decock/safety
levers. This one was a police trade and sold for 284.00 + shipping and FFL fee. I wish I had bought two at the time.

A Franklin, NC pawn shop had one for well over a year, priced at $399.99; they finally sent it to another of their stores and sold it. DAO is not that popular around here, and such guns tend to sit for a while.
I own a S&W 3953, the DAO version of the 3913, and used to have a 5946. I do like the DAO triggers and thinner slides and lack of a safety or decocker to fool with. I am on my second 3913, which I do not like as much as the 3953.
Here is my 3953 with one of my Shield 9mm pistols. If my 3913 sells, I will buy another Shield.

mbliss57:
I've tried very hard to like the 69 series of S&W 3rd generation semi-autos. For whatever reason, they always shoot about 4.0 inches low for me. My wife bought a nice Model 6906 for me as a birthday present for me a couple of years ago, and the arthritis in my hands makes it very painful for me to shoot it. I was able to trade it off for a CZ Model 75B recently, and consider it a good deal. I actually owned a DAO Model 69 series (6946?) years ago, and it actually went back to the factory twice for the shooting low issue. After the second trip, the Customer Service manager included a note stating they had replaced the barrel and could do nothing else for me. He suggested seeing a gunsmith for a custom made (higher) front sight. I recall trading that gun off at a loss as DAO, as previously noted, is not that popular.
Best of luck,
Dave

Has anyone had a good experience with the 6946? From the comments so far it sounds like I should clear.

What is your sight picture? If you shoot low you would need a shorter front sight.
For $350 I would be all over that 6946. I recently bought one from Cabelas for $450. They are fine handguns.

I have a 5943 and a beretta 96d . I find that I shoot them a little better than my traditional da/sa guns, maybe its the constant trigger pull. If I were you I would by it in a heartbeat.

If the gun hasn't been abused, I'd buy at that price. I have a 3953 and have been happy with it. I prefer a DA/SA and usually carry a CS9. I had to practice a lot with the DAO to keep my mind from screaming "Malfunction!" when the hammer didn't stay cocked after a shot.

Besides my revolvers I have a 1086 that is DAO. I don't shoot it often but when I do I find I am just as accurate as my DA/SA 1006. I think I will try to get it at a little lower price. Thx for the input.
