I just finished going over & cleaning my new 41, can't wait to shoot it later today. The only 22 lr ammo that I have is CCI HV 40 gr.HP, CCI HV 36 gr. HP, CCI BLAZER 40 gr. LRN, Federal Champion bulk 525 (blue & black) box HP 36 gr. and Remington 525 Golden Bullet HP 36gr. I hope some of this stuff works.
Also, my trigger pull comes out to 2 lbs +/- 1/10th of an ounce, a bit lighter than I expected because the S&W site shows 2 3/4 to 3 1/4 lbs. I'd like your take on this.

New, is that new to you or brand new?
If it’s new to you maybe the trigger lever was removed by the previous owner. I have seen it removed from some 41s and believed it was to make the trigger lighter.
Check for the lever and if in place adjust to change the trigger pull to your liking.

The rules for NRA Bullseye competition allow a minimum 2 pound trigger pull for .22s. If your gun was previously owned by a bullseye shooter it may have been "adjusted". This can be done several ways but a competent gunsmith would be able to change the weight to your liking.

From my experience they usually come from the factory with a TP of around 2.5lb. Most people would be happy with a factory 2 lb pull.

I have a very early model 41, I have had it for years and the only issue I have had with it is it is VERY ammo selective. When I was shooting it fairly regularly it preferred Eley green box. My trigger is close to 2 lbs and I love it. Oe thing for sure, be ready to shoot when you put your finger thru the trigger guard.

Suggest it probably best to leave the TP alone until you decide on the ammo. If you have access to a Ransom rest use it to determine best ten shot group at 50 yds and then at 25yds.Then try the best grouping ammo at these distances off hand to learn your personal accuracy and handling of recoil. Or don't bother with any of this and just shoot the Blazer 40 gr. As to TP, I wouldn't mess with it until you've put 500-1000 rds down range.

DO NOT USE high powered AMMO in this gun as they do not require it and you can do damage to it as well. I believe you will find the CCI SV 40 just perfect for that gun as it will shoot great all day fine with it. I believe about 98% of us use this ammo for our 41's or 46's.

My 41 prefers Blazer by a large margin. I just drop a recoil buffer in and plan on replacing it every so often.

I have 2 model 41's a 5 inch and a 7 inch.. BOTH have the drop in buffer..
Wouldn't leave home with out the buffer.....Mine seem to prefer the CCI sv.. Any way the guns shoot well above my ability..

I sadly got rid of a 41 about 1980. I am a big fan of light triggers, but this one was so light it scared me. I didn't have a gauge in those days, but I know what a 2 lb pull feels like. I don't think this one would have made it to 2 lb. I should have sent it back to S&W to check it, but young and dumb something else caught my fancy and I traded it off.
Glad to hear you can still buy a new 41. Looking forward to a range report.

I bought mine brand new back in February of this year. The factory trigger is consistent at 2#, 8 oz., and I'm extremely happy with it.

The M41 Trigger is adjustable to 5 different pull weights. S&W claims the range is from 2.25 - 3.25 pounds but I've found some slight variations from gun to gun. If yours is 2.1 pounds that would be perfect for me, however if you want it heavier just use a proper punch to drift out the pin and move the notched adjuster to a heavier setting. PS: DO NOT DRY-FIRE WITHOUT A SNAP-CAP! Go to a Home Depot and pick up a box of #4 - 6 Yellow Plastic Wall Anchors - they make perfect Snap-caps, but rotate position after each pull as they are soft and do dent.

Model 41 maintenance

I was able to address almost all Ammo issues with three Model 41 guns by simply increasing the amount of oil on the slider rails. I then was able to switch from CCI mini mags to CCI std velocity with no jams. Oil should run the full length of the slider rail, without over doing it. Especially important during the first several thousand rounds.

Note that the trigger factory setting for the performance center Mod 41 was stronger than for the two other non PC Mod 41s for me and a colleague.

I have been using a model 41 for more than forty years, I have never used high velocity ammo and have no need to. I have a Ruger MkII for the more abusive ammo. I have used only Federal Champion 711 and CCI standard velocity in the Smith. My model 41 has a one kilogram trigger, exactly. I sweated bullets when I had to weigh it for a match. I held my breath and prayed while I gingerly lifted the weight, hoping it would not release the hammer before I could set the weight back on the ground.

That is a very nice looking model 41! Mine is a 2007 manufacture that I bought used and it's just a hair over 2 lb pull, very crisp. I'm another one who always uses a buffer in my model 41. I almost always shoot standard velocity in it but just figure the buffer is extra insurance, and it makes the pistol run quieter. Looking forward to your report after you get to shoot yours.
