Thumbs down Bodyguard slide lock problems

I have a fairly new Bodyguard pistol. Out of the box it functioned flawlessly with two of three new S&W magazines, locking back on empty each time. The third, however, failed to lock on empty about 50-75% of the time. I sent the malfunctioning mag back to S&W and they sent a replacement. The new third mag fails to lock back on empty 90% of the time. The other two mags continue to function flawlessly.

Did I get two bad magazines out of four? Or do I have a defective pistol? Pleas advise.

Thanks.

The only way to know is to send the pistol back with the magazine so that S&W can evaluate them both. Be sure to tell S&W that this is the second mag acting this way and that your pistol does not malfunction in this manner with the other two magazines.

It sounds like it's the follower on the mags. It is not fun to have happen but it is not totally unheard of with different guns and mags. S&W should be able to rectify this rather easily.

Ruger is also having a mag problem with the SR22. I altered my second mag and now they both work fine, shouldn't be necessary on a new setup, though.
My BG380 problems, on the other hand, are really getting annoying. It's been back to Smith, with no improvement at all.

Before you put a lot of effort into this, disassemble and clean the mags. Don't lube the mags with oil as they will only collect gunk. Use a dry lube or graphite powder if you feel you need to lube them.

Take the spring out of the mag and make sure the follower slides all the way to the top freely without binding. Make sure the follower travels all the way to the top (same as your working mags). Also, be sure the spring is inserted correctly.
