I recently purchased a S&W 845 which was one of the ones originally distributed by Lew Horton. It has the original Delrin grips and I'd like to replace them with wood grips but not the Hogues. Nill makes wood grips for the Wischo German distributed version of the 845 (the .45 Target Champion). But the Nill grips require 2 screws in the sides not the single pin at the corner like the factory grips. Is the Lew Horton-distributed U.S. 845 predrilled to accept these types of grips or will I have to have the frame drilled and tapped? I would check myself but the 845 is pending paperwork because of one gun a month in my state.
My experience has been with 5900 series guns; not owning one with Nills myself but knowing others that do. In that case, yes, they have to be drilled and tapped. People that I know who have done this sent theirs back to the factory to have them installed.
Thanks much for the input. I'll hold off on ordering any Nills since I don't want to drill the frame. Is there anyone other than Nills and Hogue who make wood grips for the 845 (4506/1006 grips should work as well)?
