pocket carry cs9?
Hey guys,
New to the forum as I just got a cs9.

I bought this gun to pocket carry as the controls and trigger match my primary iwb carry pistol. I picked up an uncle Mike's pocket holster for it and things have worked out great so far.
I still think there are mods that could help this gun hide better though and have a few questions:
1) Does anybody make wood grips for these guns? I am aware of the big dog option and will go with it if I can't find a wood grip maker up for a challenge.
2) How do we make the magazine shorter? So far I am thinking thinking of ordering a 908 magazine and swapping the base plates in hopes that without the pinky rest the gun will print less. I also plan on checking out the competitions mags to see if any will fit flush in the cs9.
3) is more about maintenance. I can't find recoil springs and also read where the assembly that holds the recoil spring can take a real beating. Can anyone with more experience on this platform give me an estimate on rounds fired based on the pictures I provided?
Thanks in advance and all opinions and advise are welcome.

Welcome to the Forum. You made a good choice as a first S&W. Carry it in good health!
I'm interested, too, in the answer to your question about a flat base magazine. Another poster here had compared the CS9 and the Shield 9, which has a flat-base option in addition to the finger extension base, and he had said he preferred the Shield for that reason. The CS is a bit thicker, too, but it's still an excellent carry or BUG.

Welcome to the Forum!
I only recently became aware of how excellent a carry choice the CS9 is while trying to locate one for another Forum member. It's definitely compact. As far as your questions, I haven't seen replacement wood grips for a lot of 3rd Gens out there, probably because of the wrap around design of the OEM grip. Hope you have some luck on that & I would be interested in your findings. You can go on S&W's site & search the parts manuals(you will have to dig!)& get the part number of the base plate you're looking for. A lot of places like Midway & Brownell's use S&W part numbers, & they might have it if S&W doesn't.
For recoil springs, again, look in the parts manuals for the part number & see if one of the above stocks it. You might also try Wolff Springs Wolff Semi-Automatic Pistol Springs - Magazines, Recoils, Hammers, Firing Pins & More. They don't show a listing for your application but might be able to come up with a substitute. Good luck & I hope this helps!

Welcome aboard!
I pocket carry a J-frame every day, a lightweight 642-2, but I have had a CS-45 since 2000 and I commend you on your choice of compact pistol....but....
There is no way on earth I could pocket carry that CS-45. I admit I'm a little guy, so maybe that's why, but it's overall height and weight (width is probably not an issue) make it impossible to comfortably deal with it in my pocket. I don't know how you do it but, if you're able, well, good luck with that! They're great guns.

As far as I know, and I've looked and looked, there are very few after-market parts or accessories for these guns, other than springs or similar items (as recommended above - but I note the recommendation is speculative - no surprise there). The CS series of guns from S&W doesn't seem to have been as successful as most of the company's products, not as far as I can tell, anyway, so finding accessories is a challenge. Bianchi probably still makes their number 100 holster for the CS guns and El Paso Saddlery makes a great belt holster for them but only if you order one - they don't stock it. And so forth.
However, I must ask, what is the "big dog option"? You got me on that one.

As I said, finding such items is hit and miss at best. If a 908 mag base plate fits that's probably your best bet. That magazine is definitely one of the reasons it's not a pocket pistol for me.
Good luck!

Big Dog grips are a factory delrin plastic grip that has been modified to fit the CS guns.
Google Grif-Tac, and you'll see the Big Dog grips. The owner is a member here.

I thought about trying shield magazines but s&w did a weird semi staggered design. The current plans involve checking out the Sig 938 and kahr series of magazines.
Thank you for the welcome.

That picture above, I bought the gun used, so I don't know the round count. I sent the gun back to S&W to convert it to DAO and had them replace the recoil spring and assembly while there.

I tried to pocket carry a CS9 and while I can, at least in mil-spec BDU pants, I never cottoned to the carry. I prefer an IWB at the 4 o'clock position or, depending on my attire, an offside carry for a cross draw. If the pocket works for you, though, great!

Try the 3913TSW non rail mags. They are the same, but I think they have a less aggressive base plate.
