Default S&W PC for 3rd Gen

Seems all they do is polish the internals and go through the gun. It's nice they pay for shipping, but there's a 3-4 month wait time.

End result is a 8-9 lb DA, and a 3 LB SA. In comparison my carry CZ that is fully worked has a 7lb 2oz DA and ~ 2lb SA pull.

I've done the work on Multiple CZs, but I am very new to the 3rd gen S&W.

I just found some dis-assembly videos. Nice.

Are the PC upgrades done by many here vs. sending it in? And any good how to articles floating around if it is a user do-able project?

Can you speak in a little more detail about exactly what you mean? The Performance Center today, 2015, doesn't really exist the way that most of us here in this forum know it, remember it, or wish that it did.

The Performance Center Smith & Wesson metal semi-auto pistols that we know & love (the S&W Model 952 for just one example) is a hand-built machine that may look like other random S&W pistols but in reality, it is nothing whatsoever like them. The fit, finish, feel, attention to detail, lock-up, trigger, accuracy and every little bit of them are nothing at all like any production gun.

The PC of today is a "name brand" that S&W uses to try and sell modern (polymer) guns and some new production 1911's and revolvers that aren't hand-built as they used to be... today, the PC simply means odd or added "features" that are outside of the production guns.

Goes for the revolvers also. A new PC revolver has a double action trigger pull that isn't as good as the one on my circa-1988 Model 686-3.

Certainly - Precision Gunsmithing - Smith & Wesson

I read somewhere that the 3rd gen smiths are really not easy guns to work on, and in fact should be sent in. That was one post on one internet site.

I'm capable, but if other capable people have the same opinion that sending it in is better then I would likely just send it in.

Trying to get a feel for these guns.

If the parts/work you have done to CZ pistols are from the trigger, sear, hammer kits from Cajun Gun Works, then I would say that -NO-, nobody does that sort of thing to production 3rd Gen pistols such as the 5906 or 4506.

If they did-- I would be seriously interested.
The Cajun parts in a CZ, when done properly, aren't exactly low cost but they give the pistols an AMAZINGLY good trigger. I don't know any production/volume 3rd Gen pistols outside of true PC guns (extremely low production, high dollar) that have a trigger break and reset like a worked-over CZ.

True PC pistols certainly do.

Yes, CGW. I've done two complete installs and action tunes, and own one more that I bought all done up.

I also converted our two 75 Bs over to SAO. We actually just finished those up this last weekend. It's a dad and daughter project. The shiny is hers, the matte mine. She did almost her entire gun herself. She's 15!

Anyways... I was just wondering if I could do what S&W does or if there really is some complicated work that needs to be done by a specialist. I mean, a lot of people won't touch their CZs either.

Like I said... I don't mind the cost. Heck they even pay for the shipping. But being without the gun for 3-4 months is not something I wanted to do.

Very cool story!

Yeah, I wish some outfit would offer the kind of things for a 3rd Gen than Cajun does for a CZ. My shooting buddy got a good deal on a nice looking CZ-75SA and I couldn't wait to check out the trigger on this purpose-built single action only pistol... and we were both nearly appalled at how extremely average it was.

If I had to guess, it seemed like the took any old production DA/SA and just locked out it's ability to function in DA. The trigger break was BAD.

With the Cajun parts installed (again, not what most would consider low cost... probably 40% again the cost of the pistol) the trigger is supreme and so enjoyable now.

Great project with your daughter!

Perhaps the SAO gun you weren't impressed with did not have the firing pin block removed? That adds a lot of play...

The CGW SAO kit we installed only contains the trigger/hammer, some pins, and a spacer for the sear cage to take up the space where the firing pin block lever used to go. We needed to keep the springs the same for our Kadet kits. A side from that we ended up with more parts out than in.

I've got the triggers set just forward enough to consistently reset on rapid fire.

Yep, he took that part out also. The pistol has a supreme trigger now for sure. Some short-sighted folks who spend much of their time flinging poo on discussion forums would call us "trigger snobs" but I know better. Simply put, he & I appreciate a fine trigger.

I can shoot my production guns quite well and I love them for what they are, but that won't ever stop my love for a fine, clean, quality trigger pull. These days, I've managed to compile a handful of pistols with triggers that would make many folks do a double-take and I sure love to shoot these guns.

Some of the 3rd gen PC guns came right out of the box with a really nice trigger. Like these guns:

Nothing wrong with enjoying the finer things in life. I let people play with my fully worked CGW pistols and their jaw drops every time.

I also make sure my daughter knows her groups are getting better because the triggers getting better. She gets a dose of reality with the un-modified j-frame Airweight, as do I, from time to time.

To me it's like any other hobby I've ever had. How much better can I make it and, damn..... I should have stopped along time ago.
