Compatible Frame for Cracked 3913 Frame?
Need some help from all the technical experts on 3rd gen models on here. I have a 3913 that S&W cannot repair due to lack of new frames. They will not offer a replacement gun because it was a police trade-in when I bought it at J&G and therefore is not eligible for that option. So, I have been looking for another used gun to swap out the frames. (I had a custom sight system installed on my slide which I like and want to keep) The current prices of 3913s have discouraged me on them as an option. I believe there are several other models that might be compatible, but need help identifying them. I assume 3914, maybe 6906, maybe 9xx models?, others? Perhaps I can find another salvageable model to swap slide or frame with that would satisfy my need.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. (BTW my serial # is TFM18XX)
Thanks,
Ron

As others have noted, a look at the frame might tell if a smith can weld it. Failing that, a 908 or 908s (stainless) might be a viable option. There is another thread in this sub forum where someone asked if a 3913 slide would fit on a 908 frame and the answer was yes.

What about the early BII SS 39 type frames? Occasionally these surface.

I would guess it would be easier to just get another 3913 and then sell one of the uppers. Since the frame is the registered part it has it's own problems acquiring. There are plenty of folks wanting short slide uppers for their guns, you should be able to recoup some of your money.

Hi, Ron!
Your 3913 slide will fit any 3rd generation 9mm, TDA, non-TSW frame. Both single stack and double stack. Either full size or compact.
Model numbers off the top of my head would be: 3904, 3906, 3913, 3914, 908, 908S, 909 (all single stack); 5903, 5904, 5905, 5967, 6904, 6906, 910, 915 (all double stacks).
Did this help?
John

Thanks to all for the replies! JohnHL provides a very good list for me to work with!
The crack runs from the top of the left side rail down to the opening for the slide stop rear insertion into the frame. It goes completely through the metal throughout the length of the crack. I have had some alloy welding experts look at it and the opinion is unanimous. Not worth the risk!
I'll see how difficult and expensive it is to find one of the above models. At current 3913 prices they are out of consideration.

Reason: corrected which side rail
